I have recently relocated to Iowa and have found the job market to say the least awfull. The pay is terrible not to mention few opportunities in the area we are living. I am considering returing to school for a RN degree. I am not sure if this is a good choice. Can any one give me some advice. I have also considered MRI or Ultrasound.

Mel,
Are you working at a rural hospital? If you are working at a hospital I would ask the department director if you could be trained in MRI. This of course depends on IF your hospital has MRI. If you don't want to move to a better paying area then you maybe stuck. If you are on the western side of Iowa there is a Ultrasound school in Sioux Falls SD.
Sorry I can' help you with Nursing.

Hey in 1990 I moved from Northern Michigan which was rural to southern Ill and my pay dropped like a rock. It does make a difference where you are. Good luck to you. Have you looked into mobile Mammo. I spent the last 15 years traveling into MT, SD, NE, WY, ND. It was an experience but very long hours.

I am an LPN working towards my RN, and I have to say-don't go into a profession just bc that is what seems to be the money maker. Nursing requires so much of a person, and those who go into that field really need to want to. I see too many unhappy nurses who got into it for the wrong reasons. we really NEED more nurses, but be sure you WANT to do it.
