I have been on worker's comp since april of 2002 and finally straightened everything out with disability in dec. of 2006. I received my retro-active benefits in march of 2007 and have been receiving monthly benefits ever since. I received a letter at the end of feb. 2008 saying I owe social security $22,000 for worker's comp offset. That's a little less than 2/3 of my entire retro payment. I've had that money for a year and have spent some of it. Paying that money back will clear out my bank account and stifle every aspect of my life. And once that money is paid back my monthly benefits will be cut in half. My monthly benefits are barely enough to live on in new york, if they are decreased, I don't know how I am supposed to pay even the most basic of bills like rent, or car ins., I can forget about cable or phone. What can I do? Can anyone help me?

You can get on a payment plan with the over payment department. If you can only pay $10.00 a month they accept that. If you can't afford anymore than that there really isn't anything else they can do.

OMG!!!! What are they doing? Making you pay back the workman's comp??? I would go see your lawyer and find out what's happening. Good advice of the payment plan if that's what you find out you have to do. I wouldn't accept it without a fight though.
