I'm 16 years old and I have recently discovered that PMDD exists and when I did I was astounded. For several years, I just assumed that I was an overly emotional teenager but recently my symptoms have gotten so bad that I knew something must be wrong and at this point I can't stand it anymore. Does anyone have any advice for me as far as the next step goes?

Hi:
Welcome to the boards. You didn't mention if you were diagnosed by your family physician or an OB/GYN. Either way, did they give you any options as far as treatment?
Please don't despair, there are so many things, both medical and nutritional etc. that can help you. Post back and let us know more details.

I actually haven't been diagnosed by anyone, but i am almost certain that i have it. I have never been to an OBGYN (i can't convince my mother to take me) and I did not bring my concerns up to my doctor (i still go to the pediatrician) because she is very unhelpful and tells me that to get more excercise every time i bring up any concern. I guess what i'm asking for is any ways that i can try to cope with it until i am able to get to a doctor and get medical help. And i just realized that i said i was 16, I'm actually 18.

Hi PrivatePanda:
What are your symptoms? You mentioned you were emotional, but I cant give you any advice if I don't know what you've been experiencing. Post back and let me know, OK? cmpgirl

My suggestion is that since you are 18 you seek out your own doc and go. Theres no reason for a mother not to take her 18 yr old daughter to a ob/gyn when she asks! You can't assume that bad PMS is PMDD and even if youre correct in diagnosing yourself, you cant do anything about it until you see a doc, as far as getting a Rx. It always amazes me when people admit that they have a problem and they want help and then the parents dont buy into it because they dont want to believe you have an issue. I can tell you dont want to be like this, see what you can do with your own independence to see the doctor.
