I have been on Lamictal for 2 months now and am finally starting to feel better, but this month my period came a week early and going on now for the time it usually would. Its 10 days as og today, all heavy and I have had perfect cycles for years bc of the pill. I told my doc today and he said he never saw it happen before, then looked it up and saw it as an infrequent side effect. Has this happened to anynone? He said to wait another cycle and maybe go to the gyno:confused:

Yes, this has happened and actually is happening to me right now. I thought it was because I had just given birth and then a couple months later I had an IUD put in. It wasn't until about a week ago that I found out that this is a side effect.
This is my 4th cycle (only on day 2) since beginning Lamictal and the shortest period was 10 days and the longest was 16 days. It is very heavy, very crampy, and very long..... I didn't think much of it because of the baby, the IUD, and the fact that I've always had my period for at least 7 days and they were always so heavy and painful.
I can tell you that I just went in for a check on my IUD and my annual and everything checked out all right.
Here is to hoping things get back to normal soon!

Hi,
Now that you mention it, yes. I am on HRT and have to take progesterone once every 3 months to ward off uterine cancer.
Whoops. Last week I had a full 6 days of really bad cramps .
Checked it out, and sure enough, it's the Lamictal.
Thanks for mentioning this. I felt like a teenager (which I by no means am!)

Not sure if this will help, but my periods improved when I upped my vitamin supps - B vits, zinc, magnesium and iron. Saying not sure if that's useful because my periods problems weren't caused by meds so don't know if that makes a difference to what might help? But thought I'd mention it just in case :)
