I'm curious how many of you who were diagnosed with high blood pressure had siblings who had it as well. Specifically, siblings who were diagnosed before, say the sage of 55 or so. I am tryingt o figure out how extensive herditary HBP might be. With parents I just assume the effect of aging, which is why I asked about siblings specifically.

My grandmother had hbp, my dad has hbp and I have hbp. Both smoked, didn't exercise and did not eat healthy.
I've had it since I was 27 (now 35). I eat well, exercise, don't smoke etc.
My brother smokes, drinks and eats horribly and he does not have hbp.
My mom does not have hbp and she doesn't smoke, eats healthy and exercises.
I definitely believe mine is hereditary.
The one thing my dad and I have in common is how we react to stress. I'm still working on it. :D

I'm 46 and have had HBP for most of my life, both my parents had it, my younger sister doesn't. I exercise regularly and have been in great shape (roughly 10% body fat) for about 4 years but the BP is still all over the place. My sister is overwieght but never has had any problems...go figure!

I'm beginning to see a pattern. My brother and sister are both in their 50s, and have never had BP over 110/65...neither eats healthy or exercises.
Wow. Seems like BP really is a case of incredibly rotten luck combined with really cruel fate.

It seems my whole family has high blood pressure.:(
Strange thing is none of us are overweight or smoke. Fairly decent diets and moderate to active lifestyle. I honestly think my brother and I are the most active and have the best eating habits, but it probably doesn't matter, as it is clearly hereditary:
-Dad. Developed in his late 30s. Sadly, died suddenly of a heart attack at age
52, over 25yrs ago.
-Mom. Between 40-45. She is alive and doing well at 84.
-Brother. Mid-30s. Now 47.
-Sister. Around age 40. Now 45
-Me. Age 49. Now 50.

My mom and brother both had high blood pressure and are deceased. My blood pressure has been too high for awhile and I most likely will be starting on bp pills next week after the Dr. checks my BP again. I eat healthy most of the time, exercise 5 days a week, don't smoke. But, I do suffer from anxiety. At first it was white coat hypertension, but lately it's too high even when I take it at home. My father and other brother don't have high blood pressure.:confused:
