Hello to everyone! I wish you all a better day today...
As i was saying in some posts I was swithched this week from Percocet to Morphine. I got twice a day long release and in between short release as a break through.
I did not sleep all night last night. I got horrible side effects and want to share them with you in case you will wonder what is going on.
I can't start urinating - just does not happen.
I got chest pain and very low heart rate.
I couldn't sleep, not even an hour last night. I was wondering and called Pharmacy. They told me if I am sensetive to stimulants (codein included) I will not be able to rest. This is exactly what happened to me.
People with low blood pressure and people with irregular heart beat - Morphine can give you severe side effects. Unfortunatelly I learn this in a hard way.
That is why if your DR prescribes your Morphine, please, discuss with him possible side effects. They are pretty nasty for me.
Good luck to you and all the best!

Moldova I've been on morphine awhile just the short acting kind, but I know I can't take it to close to bed time or I am wired. I have the same effect with ALL narcotics though. I am sorry you had to go through all this. Maybe you need a dose adjustment I know when I first started with mmorphine, I took alot less than prescribed because I didn't feel like I needed the whole amount. Well good luck with this, I hope you and your doctor can figure something out. Take Care, Dee :)

((((((((HUGS)))))))) I hope you can get some rest today. Hang in there, sweetie!

Hi Moldova: I didn't have the exact reaction to morphine as you, but I did have a bad one. My heart rate actually went up, my blood pressure went through the roof and my head hurt so bad, I thought I was having a stroke or something.
Have you ever been given Oxycontin? I take the extended release, with Vicodin for BT pain.
Might be worth a try when you see or talk to your doc. I'll say a prayer that you get everything straightened out. God Bless, cmpgirl:)

HI Moldova,
I had the same reaction as cmpgirl. Most narcotics wire me, but this one just worked well for me in the beginning. They first put me on Avenza but it only worked about 8 hours. Nothing is working again and i am on MScontin 30mg 2x daily, Neurontin and Flexeril. The flexeril is so sedating, I think it counteracts the wired effects of the narco's. My BP has been up since starting all meds and they added that to the mix a few weeks ago. That wires me to the point of jitters. They will change that in a few weeks though. I'm so sorry you had to endure that. How frightening. I hope they find something that works well for you thought. The neurontin does calm my muscle spasms better than anything so far. They aren't gone, but more controlled I guess.
Thank you for the 2nd opinion in my thread. I know I need to do that, but I wanted to wait until I see my PM Tuesday to see if he recommends anyone in particular then do some research on him etc. I won't put it off more than a day after though. I have to get back to work for crazy reasons going on in my family but that is for another time.
Loving thoughts your way, Lisa

I feel your frustration. When I was on MSC for over 4 years I did not sleep more than an hour at a time. There were times in which I had to put up with the pain and not take medication just to get one nights sleep. I have the same problem with nearly every other Narcotic. The patch was 10's worse for me, I didn't sleep at all except when nearing the end of the patches life cycle, then I could sleep maybe for 30 minutes. It was the worth month of my life!
Because you said it affects your heart this is definately NOT the medication for you. You are probably going to find you are sensitive to others similiar in nature. Have you thought about methadone? It is the only one I took that actually made me sleep.
As I had mentioned in a previous post a few days ago I actually was taking 3 medications to induce sleep, none of them even worked. Of course if I take them now I'm knocked out for 12 hours!
Urinary retention is very common with narcotics, generally with time this does go away but can creep back at any point in time.
