Hi all,
I’ve been having unusual chest pains during the middle of the night for the last 2 weeks now. The pain generally starts in the centre of my chest and is sharp, them seems to spread, like and electric shock across my breastbone. On one occasion it has started slight to the left of centre of my chest, and on another occasion it has spread down my right arm.
Last night it happened 3 times. The first time was very uncomfortable, & felt like a sharp pain, followed by a kind of hard electric jolt in the centre of my chest.
The pain only lasts for a few seconds, maybe 10, and disappears if I sit bolt upright, which I usually do, as the pain wakes me from my sleep. It does startle me & so I wake up taking a big intake of breath.
I have also noticed a kind of surging sensation as I’m dropping off to sleep on quite a regular basis. This seems to originate in my stomach & radiate up behind my breastbone. This wakes me up with a start also, but does stop as soon as I sit bolt upright.
I’m concerned that the pain seems to be getting worse & more frequent through the night. At first it was once per night – last night it was 3.
I am 32 years old. I have a BP of 113/65, and a resting pulse of 80. My last cholesterol test 6 months ago was 5.1
My diet is generally good, and I do exercise. A typical week was last week, when I cycled 8 miles x 2, and did 3 walks or 2/3 miles. I am a smoker – approx 20 per day. I do not drink any alcohol at all
I do have a history of dyspepsia, and had an endoscopy 2 yrs ago to check for an ulcer after substernal pain. No ulcer found, but have had recurring stomach pain, that radiates into left arm at times, and suffer from indigestion on occasions despite the pantaprazole.
I am also taking Sertraline Hydrochloride as when I began to experience substernal pain I got very anxious & had frequent panic attacks. The panic attacks have completely gone now, although I plan to take Sertraline for another 3-4 months
I do not experience any symptoms on exercise, or during the day at all
Anyone got any ideas what it might be ??
