Do some research. Ask your doctors. My husband had chronic renal failure for about 10 years, then last year was in the hospital for three months to save his leg with third by-pass, went into acute renal failure. Declared him End Stage Renal Disease. He has been on dialysis since last April..three times a week. Because he is 79 with multiple comorbidities, we have no idea how long dialysis will help him...

Your nephrologist should be answering your questions, since there are many co-factors.

You didn't say what caused your renal failure. Mine was reversed and I've been fine for three years. Dialysis can keep you alive for many years. A transplant can keep you alive AND well for many more. Don't give up.
