I have been on Atenolol for about 4 years now for palpitations. I never had a problem with my BP until I went into labor and it stayed up since then. My doctor increased my dose of Atenolol from 12.5 mg to 25 mg to help bring my BP down. My BP still goes up occasionally but every time I check it my heart rate is down into the mid to lower 50's. Is this low heart rate safe or is it too low? My heart rate was always in the 70's before.

Unles you get symptoms of dizziness , chest pains , shortness of breath i wouldn't worry to much. you may want to consult a doctor + a second opinion. Best of luck http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/angel.gif

I have mvp and I have been on Atenolol since November 2001. I have tried different beta blockers but Atenolol seems to work the best. I don't have high blood pressure but my palpatations are almost unbearable without the meds.
I am on 1 pill a day 50mg. I take it in the morning usually and by late evening the medicine starts to wear off and my palps are back.
My blood pressure is in the range usually 120/90.
Maybe your doc needs to adjust your dosage. Did you have blood pressure problems during your pregnancy? You maybe want to ask your doctor to increase your dosage if your symptoms persist.
Good Luck!
