Hello all. I have severe bunions on both feet (big toes at 45 degree angles) and have been putting off any treatment for years. Now I'm having alot of pain in the middle toes and achilles on one side. The toe pain is relatively sharp and occurs when there's any pressure on those toes. The achilles comes and goes and is an ache rather than pain.

Has anyone experienced either of these and learned that it was related to the bunions? Doesn't seem connected but there's alot I don't know about feet!

I know one day (soon?) I will have to consider the surgery. For those who had pain prior to the surgery - does the procedure make it better? I've had some significant surgeries but this one scares me! Words of wisdom and your comments appreciated!

The toe pain is almost certainly related to your bunions, if you could see an x-ray of your bones you would see how pressure is being put on the middle toes. You might also be pinching the nerves (neuroma) causing pain.
The achilles isn't necessarily related except that you might be moving your foot in an unusual manner due to trying to protect your foot from the toe pain.

Whatever the case, if you want to take care of the pain in your toes you will need to correct the root of the problem, your bunions. Ask around for a good podiatrist and consult him/her.
