View Full Version : Heart rate exceeds 200 with exercise

Has anyone experienced this? Healthy female runner, biker, first trathlon last year. Experiencing high heart rate that spikes from 150/160 up to 220/230 with excercise. Had holter - unusual (240 durifn excercise), Echo normal and stress testr unable to reproduce symtoms. Happens everytime I exercise. Help!!! Shushie

Not sure if you still check the boards for answer to your question, but heck, I hate to see that little 0 in someone's response box.
From what I've read, a HR over 200 for say a 20 year old (you don't say what your age is), is in the maximum range and not something one should experience if everything is working well, especially given your fitness level. Were there any other problems on your Holter report (disarrythmia? PVCs?). Do you take over-the-counter meds prior to exercising (sinus decongestants?) or consume mass quantities of caffeinated beverages?. This could account for your HR, especially in light of your negative echo results. No doubt your doctor has asked the same questions, so I'm sure he/she will come up with the right answers.
