My pain doc has reduced my avinza from 90mg to 60mg. I am now in so much pain I can't stand it. My back is killing me. I fell down over a month ago and hurt my shoulder...it hurts so bad I can barely move my left arm. I need a joint replacement in my left knee and it is swollen bigger than a volley balll. It hurts as bad or worse than my shoulder or back. I don;t see my pm until next thursday(over a week.) I have enough 90 mg avinza to get me to the doc. Should I keep taking the 60 mg.

I don't thing I can bare much more
Thanks

Hey Randy-
Sorry you are in such pain and having to deal with that pain during a decrease in meds.

I hate to do this, but can you give more details so we can help a bit more? You said your pain doctor reduced your Avinza, but didn't state why he did this. Is he trying to wean you off to stop them all together, or trying to judge your pain levels with a decrease is dosage? Are you taking any other medications along with the Avinza?

I would recommend you trying to get in with your doctor and have him look at your knee. It may be that you need fluid drained off it it. In my years of knee issues, having fluid drained from the knee made an immediate difference in pain levels. We are talking pain going from a 9-10 down to more like a 4.

For whatever reason, your doctor lowered your dose, it would probably be in your best interest to stick with that dosing unless you are able to speak with him or his office and get approval to increase back to the 90mgs.

Try and contact their office and let them know how bad you are hurting and ask if they can bump up your appointment, or at least tell you what to do about your pain until your next appointment.

Take care, and please let us know what happens.
