Hi, I have been reading so many of the posts here on bunions, and wanted to say how helpful you all have been to me, even though this is my first time to post on this subject, myself.

I had a bunionectomy and hammertoe correction (second toe) on my right foot exactly 5 weeks ago...and all in all, doing very well. I've searched the threads here and didn't see anything on how your foot looks after a bunionectomy. My scars looks really good to me, to only be 5 weeks out, toes are still very stiff, but I am working on that...I had no pins, screws, etc., BUT to me, and my DH I still look like I have a bunion, not as ugly as the actual one, but I definitely have a bump still to the left of my big toe. Is that normal? There is no doubt, still swelling, and when I compare it to my left foot it's pretty obvious. Did any of you still have a bump on the side after your surgeries and can I expect that to get better and better (and going away) as more time passes?

Don't mean to come across as so vain, here, but I am scheduled to have a small bunion removed March 24th, and wonder if I should. The bunion on that foot is just the beginning of one, so we decided to just take care of it, before it has a chance to turn into such a big one like the one on my other foot did. But, right now it's smaller than the one on the foot I had the surgery on.

Hope this all makes sense and I really do appreciate your input regarding how the actual bunion area should be looking by 5 weeks, PO. Thank You!

HI,
Tomorrow will be 8wks for me. Bunionectomy with 4 hammertoes. I just looked at my foot after reading your post and I do not have a bump at all on my foot. My bunion was large before surgery. It looks as if it is all gone, but I still have a lot of swelling in my foot. I also have a bunion on the other foot, but it will be a long time before I have it removed.

Jean, I sure appreciate your quick response....altho, it's not what I really wanted to hear...lol I just measured around the foot that I recently had the surgery on and if measures 3/4" of an inch bigger around than my other foot that has the baby bunion. My sister is an RN and she told me that she feels it will still go down, as five weeks is not that long. It does look much better than before, but hoping some of it is still swelling to the side. Thanks again!

Anyone else???

I am also at 5 weeks past surgery and I have no bump whatsoever. I also have very little swelling of my foot, it is very close to normal. One thing that I did though was to exercise every day so that my pulse rate was up for at least 5 minutes a couple of times a day and then elevated my feet and iced. Don't know if this helped or not, but I am very pleased with the results.

I didn't get mine done because of the way it looked, I had mine done because it was so severe that it caused my 2 and 3 toes to dislocate over a period of time. If your small one isn't causing you problems I would hesitate to have it done just for cosmetic purposes.

hi diane, are you having the bunion removed because you are in pain or ithis cosmetic surgery? i stongly reccommend not having any foot surgery if you are not in pain. if your dr feels the bunion has to be removed for walking purposes then get it over with.

Hi Diane,

I am in a similar situation to you. I had my bunion surgery last April but still have a very small bump. It looks and feels 100 times better than the bunion that I had so I am okay with it. I think it looked worse right after surgery because of the swelling. Yours will probably go down a little too. Is the remaining bump much smaller than your bunion or almost the same size?

I am going to have my second foot done in a few months because I have noticed that the bunion is starting to get worse. I do not want it to get as bad as my right foot was, it was a huge bunion, so I figure it's better to have the surgery now before the bunion gets worse. I agree with debbie g, though, you should only have the second surgery if this bunion bothers you or seems to be getting worse over time.
