Hello,, I take a lot of Acemetaphine/Tylenol for Migraines
I checked out my liver last week and my enzymes were "slightly elevated" in her words, coming back at 52. She said normal is 10-42

What I'm wondering is anyone eles's experiences with Liver enzymes

Is this high?

I generally will take 1000-1500MG of tylenol per day for the migraines
Am I Safe in assuming this is the cause of it? (I drink maybe twice a month) Can I expect them to continue to get higher if I keep taking this amount of tylenol? Is 52 really "THAT BAD"?

52 is not real high.my alt was 51 (with 2-45 being normal)and my doctor wasnt real worried about it.but yeah my guess is its the tylenol,it can be hard on your liver.id cut back maybe,but i dont think its anything serious.

Thanks for the reply. My Doctor said 10-40 was "normal" but every lab is different. I dont get what that means. You say 45 is normal, mine says 40...huh? Also, I heard men can have higher ALT and normal is up to 55.

rtd2112--There are other things that you can take for migraines other than tylenol. My DH suffers with migraines all the time and he was taken off the product with tylenol due to raised liver enzymes. Of course his enzymes were up because of HH not tylenol. It most likely is the cause of your elevation and should be discontinued because it does cause damage. I have been told not to worry about liver numbers until they are 3X but who wants a problem. Last week I was doing alot of research about coQ10. I have been researching because I take (but on hold for now) a statin and was trying to understand if I should take it as well. Anyway, during my research I found numerous articles/studies/posts that described how coQ10 is very effective in treating migraines. A lady I work with has an 18 year old daughter who suffers terribly w/migraines and is on two prescriptions. She said she was going to ask her doctor about it and do more research as well. I saw your post about migraines and I remembered finding the information. I hope this helps. Wouldn't it be fantastic for all the migraine sufferers if this is true? Best wishes!!!

I want to bump this as I was mistaken.

I got my report today, here's what it says:

Bilirubin, Total Me=1.9 Normal= 0.2-1.2 mg/dL

AST Me=52 Normal = 10-40 U/L
ALT Me=44 Normal = 9-60 U/L

I mentioned I'm on the Tylenol, and my Dr was a little more perplexed because she believes typically a medication like Tylenol will affect the ALT over the AST, but my ALT is well within normal, but my AST is high.

ALso, my BILIRUBIN is pretty high for some reason.

Anyone have any thoughs or input on this? Really appreciated

my hubby's ast and alt was 92 and 88. he has cirrohis pretty bad. sounds like you need to get off the tylenol before it does any more damage. trust me, you don't want to damage your liver.
