whats the difference between toprol and generic toprol. i was on the brand name for 3 yrs and now my ins will only authorize the generic brand.

I have read that the generic is exactly the same as the name brand toprol. I also read the reason for the price difference is because the company that originally makes spends so much on developing , testing and other research costs, so that is why it cost more. Once that leg work is done and the OK is given for generics, it is very inexpensive to duplicate that product so our cost is much less. I to was swithced to generic toprol by my insurance and I have not noticed any difference.
