Hi, recently i have been experiencing really scary episodes. it always happens at night when i m about to sleep on my bed. my heart would start racing. n it is super fast that i do not even dare to measure. i guess because of this, i got scared and this causes me to pass motion. then i tried to sleep. just mins into my sleep, i got up due to my racing heart. it must have been super high for me to get up and i tried to pass motion again. somehow or rather i feel that passiing motion will lower my heart rate. no use. i ate my anti-palps , anti anxiety med and gastric med. slowed down alittle but was still fas. throughout e night i went toilet to try to relieve myself.
i remembered i had a similar experiece abt a month ago. on my bed and started racing. the next morning it was still racing until i shitted.

on these 2 nights abt an hour or two before i was on my bed, i ate many stuff. the first night i took glutinous rice, banana, yogurt, yakult. the second night i took chocolate biscuit, yakult, yogurt, ice chocolate, milk.

i was thinking maybe it was due to tummy upset but...even then it would not cause an increased heart rate of that level.

what could be the cause?

you need to see a doctor to have a device put on you that can see what your heart is doing and how fast it is going
or go to the ER let them see
not everything is panic or being upset

Hi, the same thing has been happening to me. Sometimes just as I'm about to go to sleep I will wake up suddenly and my heart starts beating really fast and I get all shaky. It lasts 20-30 seconds. If I get startled while I'm sleeping (if for example someone walks in the room and I wake up) the same thing happens. This does not all the time but I've been noticing it more and more. I am wondering if it is a panic attack?

fast heart rate unless your running or being active or very scared is not normal
you dont have to have a heart attack to have something wrong with your heart
there is lots of things that can cause fast heart rate and not be a heart attack
but still something wrong with the heart

First off, you need to see a cardiologist, preferrably a cardiac electrophysiologist. They're the experts in the electrical system. Until then and as far as your fast rhythm, here's some suggestions on how to try to stop it. You said your rhythm stopped when you were sitting on the pot. Actually, "bearing down" is one way to try to disturb the rhythm. So, you were right on there. Here's a quote from this web site http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/106/25/e206 "You may want to discuss with your physician the steps that you may take when you develop SVT. For instance, your physician may instruct you to perform the Valsalva maneuver to try to stop the SVT yourself if you do not have lightheadedness, shortness of breath, chest pain, or other severe symptoms. To do this maneuver, first lie down, take a deep breath and hold it, and then bear down as if you are having a bowel movement."

You can try coughing several times in a row. Anything that "shocks" your system, like sticking your face in cold water can break the rhythm. Or, lay on your right side and the rate should subside. These are not cures, but merely ways to disturb the rhythm and try to get it to reset. I have something called sick sinus syndrome and have had a pacemaker for 15 years. Since last fall, I have been dealing with the fast episodes. These are some of the ways I have been dealing with the rhythm problem. However, I was never brave enough to do the "bearing down" thing for very long. Usually laying on my right side did the trick. They may just "watch" you or go ahead and put you through some painless tests to get to the bottom of it. Good luck and please find a cardiac EP as those rates can be disturbing.
