View Full Version : Aortic Valve Replacement

I recently posted on the aging issures board about some concerns for my Granddaddy. He is 84 years old.

He is weak on the right side, gets dizzy very easy, and has no energy.

After several days of testing and ruling out a second light stroke, the doctors have ordered a heart catherization for tomorrow morning.

They believe his aortic valve is the problem.

Has anyone had any experience with the heart catherization and/or aortic valve replacement?

The whole family is concerned and need to know if maybe I should be off tomorrow during the heart catherization.

I have heard that there is risk with this procedure and I would be there for him. My aunt just had this done and everything went well. Good luck to you all. If it is a valve replacement this is very commom. FLFLOWERGIRL:)

As of this morning, both procedures have been cancelled.

My Granddaddy's age (84) and his weakened state make the risks too high to chance.

He would rather live out the rest of his life and go when God is ready then take the chance of something going wrong during surgery.

It surely is something to be considered at his age. At 84 I wouldn't want to go throught it either. Good luck to you both. FLFLOWERGIRL:)

Thanks for responding.

He seems to be doing better and is happy about his decision as we all are.

He is now having lung issues, so we are still in the hospital.
