Hi, I'm joe.
I'm 29 yrs old, and I've had joint pain for several years now. It probably began when I was around 20, in the joints of my wrists and fingers, right shoulder and right knee. I used to attribute it to wrestling injuries from high school, and to my being an artist/craftsman who works very intensely with his hands. Now days, however, I have persistent pain in nearly all my joints, including my shoulders, wrists, fingers, cervical and lumbar spine, hips, knees ankles and feet.
I have ignored it so far, but recently it has begun to affect my quality of life. The pain becomes severe enough, if I am on my feet or sitting in a hard chair for more than a few minutes, that I can no longer ignore it. I become irritable and impatient, and am unable to concentrate.
A couple of months ago, I attended a class that was mostly comprised of people at least 10 years older than me (most in fact were between 15-30 years my senior). The chairs were hard, but I noticed that most of the other men and women were able to sit in the same position for extended periods of time, while I, the youngest in the group, found it necessary to adjust every couple of minutes because of joint pain. If I sat forward, my shoulders, knees and ankles would begin to hurt. if I leaned back, my lower spine and hips hurt. If i crossed my ankles, my knee and ankle would hurt.
The strange thing is that there seems to be no noticeable inflammation along with the pain. My joints don't swell or feel warm to the touch, and I don't run fevers. I know of no familial history of arthritis either. I've never been overweight, and I'm relatively fit.
Something is wrong, though, and I've finally decided to consult a doctor. I just thought I'd bounce my experiences off of the group here just in case someone can relate or provide insight.
Thanks
Joe
