Thanks much!

Magnesium and calcium are excellent for the heart. I take 1000 mg of calcium with 615 mg of magnesium. They have cut down on my palps greatly. And I also suffer from an anxeity disorder which I have been on Zoloft forever. But now thanks to magnesium and calcium I have been Zoloft free for 2 weeks. Which is excellent for me. I also take a B complex with this combo. Give it a try. I highly recommend it. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

well palpatations are when your heart skips beats, flutters, or what i like to say is it flip-flops. you could be watching tv then all of a sudden your heart will go thump thump thump thump really fast. you may get light headed as well like i do. hope that helps crj?

This is a suggested treatment by some physicians, but persons experiencing palpitations'skipped heart beats' should consult their physician, as etiology (cause) of palpitation vary by person.

In some cases this treatment does work, because the heart's electrical system is controlled by magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium and other electolytic molecules.

Any person experiencing palpitations, aka 'skipped heart beats', aka premature ventricular contractions need to see their healthcare provider ASAP for an accuarte diagnosis and treatment options.

Tracey,

Thanks for your response. I'm not always sure if folks think of palpitations as being just a strong/fast, but otherwise regular heartbeat, that they are very aware of, or, if, as you describe, they mean irregular beating and/or a strong/fast heart beat. I have all of the above. The irregular beats are the worst, like a very strong hiccup in your throat, sometimes including a series of skips occurring very closely together (I also get kinda lightheaded and my body/skin often feel weird as well, kinda numb/tingling). Anyway, I've been checked repeatedly by several cardiologists and have been told it's nothing to worry about (if only that made it possible to smile and be happy when they occur). Taking Xanax helps, but I don't like having to do it. Taking beta blocker, ironically, makes my heart beat too slow. I'll give your suggestions regarding calcium/magnesium further thought.

Thanks again!

Hi- Two questions:
matty_boston: What dosage did your doctor suggest?

LuckyLadyBug- Is your calcium 1000/, magnesium 615mg combo all in one pill? I prefer pills to liquid but the less swallowing I'd have to do the better!
By the way, I'm a 58 year old female, with newly diagnosed hypertension and after three/four months of experimentation with BP meds because of side effects, we think Diovan may be "the one". EXCEPT, these skipped beats started with the Diovan. 8 weeks on Diovan...8 weeks of skipped beats. EKG, bloods, full physical ...everything checks out ok and I'm told these pvcs are "benign" and not to worry. Its interesting that they started with the Diovan, no? Doc says "maybe it's the drug "but we're on a "watch, wait and see" deal right now.
I'd be disappointed if it's the Diovan because it seems to be, so far the only drug I've tried that doesn't floor me with side effects.. Anyway, I would love to try the magnesium/calcium in the meantime.

My doctor recommended 400mg (1 tablet) of Magnesuim Oxide taken 1/day. I got mine at CVS (if you can't find it ask the pharmacist). He recommended the Oxide over the Magnesuim Sulfate.

Hope this helps

Thanks matty_boston! Next question...did it work for you???

I just started taking it, so I can't really say just yet. I will need to give it some time. My doctor said that this helped alot of his patients, so I was willing to give it a try versus beta blockers.

He also said that it is soluable(sp) in water, which means your body will get rid of any excess magnesium that is in your body. Bottom line is that it is a safe thing to try with minimal side effects....

Hi there- Matty_boston...it's been a week or so. Any changes for you yet? I just started a calcium/magnesium supplement: 3 softgels a day gives me a total of Calcium 1000mg, Magnesium 400mg, Vitamin D 100 IU, Boron 1mg, Horse Tail 25mg. Keeping my fingers crossed the pvcs subside. Need the calcium anyway, since I'm post menopausal, and no longer on hormone replacement therapy (which, if nothing else, protected my bones.) But too much controversy swirlling now about HRT not being beneficial, like they all thought once, for the heart. Anyway, hope the adding of Magnesium will help the "skips" which, as I posted earlier somewhere, are about 2-4 a minute, every minute of every hour, 24 hours a day. All since starting Diovan 160mg for BP. Co-incidence>? Doc isn't sure. EKGs, all tests A-OK. Bloods spectacular. Have no other health issues except the elevated BP which is well controlled. ANYWAY......
Let us know how you're doing!

ZuZu8-

So far so good. Although, I must say I don't get PVC's all the time so its hard to say whether its the magnesium or not. I will keep taking it and report back in another week.

Let me know how you are doing as well!

Hi matty_boston-
Good to hear from you. Will look forward to hearing if in another week you notice any significant changes.
I actually had a good day today, pvc-wise. A few, not many. And sometimes none for a couple of hours which is a BIG difference for me. Hard to tell if it's the magnesium yet (only a few days on it so far), plus I got some good walking in yesterday after being sedentary for a week (!) plus got more sleep last night than of late...so...who knows. We'll see. Talk to you soon!

Hello all,

I was wondering if you could take the magnesiumoxide with beta blockers or is it just an alternative? I am on several different meds which include Altace, Lopressor, Dibenzyline and several others, and I am not exactly sure which are calcium blockers and which are beta blockers.(alpha blockers etc.)

Thanks For the suggestions they have been very helpful.
