In Sept my right big toe went numb and has never regained feeling.
In Nove my left second toe did the same. I went to my family dr and she blew it off. With lots of medical issues in my family I wanted to follow it up so I went to a new dr. She checked glucose- ok, B12- low but not low enough to be the cause- MRI- showed protruding disc. So I went to a neurosurgeon and he blew me off and said it wasn't my back causing the problems and deal with it. So what on earth can it be?

Toes don't just "go numb" for no reason.

its not meds, not sugar, not shoes, not back, not B12...I've even been to a chirocractor that said he couldn't help either. What else could cause this. I had no accident or trauma either.

I'm done waiting and paying for the drs to figure it out.

Where to now?

Did they do any nerve conduction testing on your feet?

No he did nothing. He didn't order PT or suggest medicine or rest or tell me to take it easy. It was a spine and brain specialists. I suggested I go to a neurologist but my dr insisted I see a neurosurgeon. I guess this guy sees people that are doing surgery and since he didn't see me as a surgical case he wasn't going to do anything wlse with me. I'm tired of drs and appts and being told = there is nothing wrong= yes there is. People don't just stop feeling their feet for no reason.

What are the medical issues in your family? Could it be a circulation issue?

Yeah, some surgeons are like that. Once they decide you aren't a surgical case, they won't give you the time of day. I guess you'd need to go back to your family doctor for a new referral?

I have diabetes in my family- father and brother both died of it. But I've been checked recently and thats not the problem. But I worry that it may crop up in later years and it wouldn't be a good thing to have a diabetic with feet that start out in trouble.
