My Dr. prescribed .75mg of xanax every 4 hours as needed. It does help--a little bit, but not much?---but anyway, I literally start falling asleep at my desk and that is not good. Will I eventually get used to it and not fall asleep at the drop of a hat? Or am I doomed? I take paxil also...but have never had any bad side effects from it.

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback

that dose is quite high to start with, try taking a smaller dose and building it up over time.

Xanax is usualy taken three times a day, every 4 hours is an unusual dosing schedual, maybe tell your doctor that it is knocking you round, and see what he suggests

I only take 1/4 mg. twice a day. If I were you, I'd cut the dose and see if that helps.

I agree, I take 0.5 and half them twice a day, wow that dose is high every 4 hours. Take half twice a day or if you need it than 3 would be max.

I had similar probs on xanax as well as bad bounce back anxiety once it wore off. If you want lasting relief try and find a cbt group meeting or to go to the library and read some books on cbt. The smaller and more concise the book the better imo for starters because you don't want to get overwhelmed. We started with the one by Sam Obitz in my group which was eye opening because he was a former panic, anxiety and depression sufferer himself and got better in a short amount of time and off meds. One of the great things about cbt is that you are responsible for the progress you make. If you want to stay with the med route I found that klonopin worked better for me than xanax.
