Margarett Sponsor japlopper 03-07-2008, 03:43 PM I can't remember what it stands for, but I can tell you that it's a nonspecific test that measures inflammation in the body. They spin your blood and measure how long it takes for your red cells to sink to the bottom. The higher the number, the more inflammation in the body. It doesn't tell them what is wrong, specifically, but it is used in combination with other tests to diagnose or measure a condition. Your Sed rate can go higher when you have an infection or an injury. I have an autoimmune disorder, hemolytic anemia, and when it is acting up, my SED rate goes up. Hope this helps. Jill |
