my daughter is 13yrs and has flat feet, the dr. wants to cut the top of the foot and add a screw in there to give her a arch. She did get bad bunions from this. What is the name of this surgery

Did he call the joint he wants to stabilize the "tarsometatarsal joint"? If so, I just had that done.

Maybe the Cotton procedure? That's done by cutting the bone, adding a wedge shaped bone graft to create an arch. Can be combined with an Evans calcaneal procedure which works well. Hope you've tried conservative treatment first.

I've never heard of the Cotton procedure, but from what you say, that sounds reasonable. Can you explain it more? I agree, though.... conservative treatments first.
I have a lifelong history of flat feet and am now 50 years old, with a history of being very active on these bad feet. I finally had my PTT snap a couple of years ago and had to have the surgery to correct that, and a whole lot else. One of the things the doc did was insert two screws in the area I think Mary's talking about to stabilize that joint. It looks good so far.... like it's created an arch. I'm 11 weeks post-op and now bearing weight, so we'll soon see how it worked out.
