I'm 30 years old. I've been taking Nexium for GERD, but I'm not sure how severe it is since I don't seem to have any real significant heartburn. Although the Nexium made all the symptoms disappear, I've been reluctant to use it after hearing people talk about the pre-cancerous polyps that may develop. But now, I'm worried about developing Barrett's esophagus. Here are the symptoms I have when I don't use the Nexium...
1. Slight burning feeling in my chest and stomach all day long.
2. When I burp, I usually feel the burning a little more. But still not painful. Just annoying. Often, this is when the burp is "forced" by pushing in the diaphragm.
3. Usually worse in the morning on an empty stomach.
4. I contstantly clear my throat.
5. I often do wet burps after eating, but I don't seem to have heartburn.
What would cause this acidity without actual heartburn? Or can heartburn be defined as only a slight burning feeling?
