In three years I haven't had sex until four months ago and last had sex with him two months ago. My blood test came back that I had prior low exposure to oral HSV 1 and I that have recently been exposed to HSV 1 or 2. That I have had no prior exposure to the genital area. My now ex-boyfriend is not aware of ever having herpes but is getting tested. Could I have given myself gential herpes if I had put my finger in my mouth and toush my genital area without washing first? They say I had prior exposure to the oral hsv but I never had sore or anything. Was I wrong to tell my ex he's responsible for giving me the genital herpes? In three months I'm going to have the test repeated do determine if the genital is 1 or 2. If it's 2 then it's safe to say it was him and not myself.

Chances are you've had oral herpes for a long time, even though you did not know it. You did not infected your own genitals. If you have type 1 oral, you cannot give yourself type 2 out of the blue, they are two different strands of the virus.
A lot of people don't know they carry herpes virus. It is possible your boyfriend infected you without knowing he had it.
So if you have recent type 2 infection, it is safe to say you got it from him.
