why are doctors so quick to prescribe an anti depressant or anti anxiety medication? how exactly do they know if you have a chemical imbalance? are there ways of testing for it? what happens if you dont have a chemical imbalance and you take the meds?

that is a good question
the only reason I take zoloft
is because I mention my mother took it for anxiety
and it worked for her...
"Do you want to try it?"
ah sure..
no real scientific research or anything involved
they just asked...I hope it doesn't do something bad..

I did try paxil and i hated it. the side effects were worse than the anxiety. my blood pressure was higher than it should have been. my anxiety level sky rocketed. maybe its all mental as opposed to chemical hence asking the question bout meds.
