I'm 16 and at least once a day my heart pounds and races. I can feel it beating so hard in my chest and it scares me because I don't know what's going on. Sometimes I get these weird fluttery feelings which I'm guessing are palpitations? Is this normal?

another thing i forgot to mention was that maybe starting last summer i began to feel my heartbeat/pulse a lot. While either sitting on the couch/in school or just walking around I can feel it. I just think it's weird for a healthy teenage girl. Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.
=)
thanks

I would recomend that you tell your parents and have them make an appointment for you to see a cardiologist. They will run some tests to find out what's going on. Especially if your heart rate pulse goes faster then 100 beats per minute. It is better to find out now then to keep wondering about it.

I am 33 years old and having been experiencing some "flutters" in my chest. I have also been experiencing a "swimmy" feeling that accompanies it but just briefly. Any idea what this could be? I do take birth control pills. Up until last month they have been the generic brand. This month I change to name brand. Could this be the culprit? It's only been happening this last week. Thanks.

Your problem very well could be Mitrol Valve Prolapse... stimulants like caffeine can aggravate this. I would def. talk to your parents about it and see a doctor. Your family doc can set you up w/ a cardiologist if needed.
And in the mean time, avoid anything that contains stimulants and see if that makes any kind if difference. I was diagnosed w/ MVP when I was 19 and ellimnating caffeine from my diet kept me off of heart meds for several years.

Take care!

Superwoman, was your MVP symptomatic? Were you getting lots of symptoms?

As for the high pulse rate, last year I used Allegra-D for a month just to see if it helps to cut the post nasal drip. I thought I had allergies. Well, only thing it helped was to raise my pulse, my resting pulse was 104. Now I do exercise everyday, I bike or run, and my resting pulse is between 60-80.
