Hey everyone,
Last night I was lying in bed and felt a heart palpatation (which the doctor says I get from anxiety) and a couple seconds later felt like I had a muscle spasm in my heart! It really scared me, so I took my pulse and could feel it in my neck. I called the doctor today and she thinks it was probably an extra beat (it only lasted for 3-5 seconds) and not to worry. But how can I not worry because it felt like a spasm and not a regular palpatation. I began reading on the internet about ventrical tachycardia and am scared that I have that now. I don't know what to do - please help!!!!!
Any response is greatly appreciated. I should probably note that I didn't have any pain or any other symptoms during this and I feel fine today.

Please try not to worry. I started having these back in April. What I have are PVC's and I like you drove myself nuts reading about what it could be. My feels like you described a muscle spasm a quick hard squeez. If I am checking my pulse when I have one I can feel a pause followed by a harder beat. I wore a holter monitor for 24hrs and was diagnosed with PVC's I only had four in the 24hrs. They can be brought on by anxiety, cafeine, as well as other things and they are not harmfull. If you are still worried call your doctor and go in have them check you over and put a monitor on you. This should put your mind at ease.

thanks for your reply. I talked to the doctor on call at my doctor's office, and she thinks it was an extra beat and not to worry. I'm not so sure about that because it was more than just on beat (it last for a couple of seconds). I recently found out that my boyfriend has had them in the past, but always thought these were palpitations instead of the twitching or spasming feeling that I described them as. I've already done the holter monitor in the past and they said I have pac's...my doctor thinks they're from anxiety. I don't know...I just don't want to fall over and die at any second...

Esophagus spasms can cause the exact same experience. Matter of fact, some people rush to hospitals during an esophagus spasm thinking it's their heart. It's just something else you can consider... very more "at ease" possibility.

I get the same type of spasms. That is exactly what the cardiology called them. He really told me not to worry until they became so bad that they were accompanied with one in the lower back at times. While I was hospitalized one time they were particularly bad and only them was it treated with Norvasc which I toold for a few months then they stopped again. I still get them but they are more on the annoying side again.
