I am a 52 year old woman and for at least 4 years I have been in excruciating pain. It started with my right groin and then the doctor did and MRI and said I have degeneration in my L5, Si. I did physical therapy and it did not really help, Then I found out about a traction table called IDD therapy. I had 20 visits and it really helped for about 2 months. I did eight more treatments and it did nothing for me. I had another MRI in December on my hip and back. It showed two small cysts in my hip and my back was the same. The Ortho doctor just tole me that the cysts meant arthritis and put me on celebrex. The celebrex does not help very much. I am in so much pain in my hip and thigh it feels like its going to breaK. My groin hurtas terribly bad and I have to limp alot of thime to walk. The pain has been making me sick and feel like I am going to faint. I can't hardly deal with it amymore. Does anyone have this proble and do you have any suggestions for me. I am a teacher and I have already had to miss two days without pay for feeling so bad. Please contact me if you have this problem and tell me if you have received any help.

Thank you

Hi,
I have had chronic pain in the groin and hips along with RA for the past 20 yrs. I also had some kind of synovial problems when they did an MRI of my hip but I don't have the report and can't remember the name other than the dr said it proved why I was having the pain. This is what helps me. My rheumy injects my hip with lidocaine and cortisone, also I take oral prednisone 5 mg one a day and that combined with my regular RA meds, Arava small every other day dose, Dolobid and Azulfidine keeps me on my feet. I know what you mean about the pain and the limping, I actually could hardly walk and almost fell down the stairs when my hip gave way. I hope that maybe you could ask the dr if they would consider the hip injection, not in the groin but the outside right where the joint is, if your dr feels that you would benefit from this and could tolerate it. I have not had any pain since the injection in early February. Hope this info helps and that you get relief.

Pam, this could be from either your back OR your hip or BOTH! As a temporary measure, see if using a cane helps you. Have you had blood tests run for RA? Have you had a CT myelogram done? This would show if there is stenosis in the spine. Do both hips hurt equally or just one? You really need a second opinion.

Oh, it can take two weeks to feel the full benefit from Celebrex. Good luck!

Hi Pam and Donna.....Pam i has osteoarthritis of the spine and
the hip. I just recently went through a hip resurface procedure and now i have a metal on metal hip and am pain
free with the exception of a few back aches since i have arthritis of the spine as well. I had a CAT scan and my back
is really jacked and they were all ready to do surgery on the
back. The pain was actually my right hip but i had referred
pain the the groin and knee and some in the hip, but i never
thougt it was the hip. An xray showed i had no cartilage left and no joint and cysts had formed. the doc told you that you
had arthritis and cysts are caused from bones grading on bones and causing them to thin and have holes...you need
an x ray of your hip. Sure it could be your back, but with
the groin pain you are having that is the first sign of a bad
hip not a lower back problem....
Donna ...your doc diagnosed you with RA and Pam doc's did not that is why she has bone cysts because it is osteoarthritis....it would not hurt her to get a blood test for this but cysts are to due bone on bones grading against
eachother and consequently she is limping because the muscles, the abductors, shut down to protect the hip...meds will not help her at this point but the suggestion of a cane will ,,,make sure you use it on the opposite side
of the hip that hurts....good luck Karen
