View Full Version : What Do You Think?

I was experiencing burning/tingling pains in both arms, shoulders, chest, back of neck for quite a while. Don't have any pain in hands but occasional slight numbness in fingers. I also get a very hot sweaty feeling in my upper body when I'm sleeping but don't feel wet .. no drenching sweat.

Finally went to doctor yesterday and he tested me for carpal tunnel (Tinel's test) and my left hand tested positive. He also said he thought I had a pinched nerve in my neck since I spend many hours a day on computer and I do have neck pain. He gave me some exercises to do for hands/neck and told me to wear a splint at night. I went home and did the exercises and my burning pains were worse then ever. I felt like I was on fire! My hubby thinks it's normal to have some pain after starting an exercise routine especially since I don't exercise on a regular basis.

I'm beginning to doubt the doctor's diagnosis.

Anyone else have similar symptoms?

If you are working long hours in front of the computer, your posture will suffer. Your shoulders are tense, and your arms are tired and resting on the keyboard. Some things you should check for is to make sure the computer monitor is not too high. YOur head should be leveled, not looking down or up. Make sure the monitor is not too far away. If you stretch out your hand in front of you, that's about the distance the monitor should be, and your hand is pointing to the center of the monitor.

Because of neck tension, you may be compressing on the nerve roots that are found in this area, so then you have the symptoms of numbness and such going down your both your arms.

You should also see a physical thearpist. THey can treat you for this, and help you relieve your symptoms. An occupational therapist can teach you on ergonomics, which help prevent further irritation of symptoms as well.

Mention to your doc to check your neck area to see if you have cervical radiculopathy or thoracic outlet syndrome. (you can search this for more info)

Hi,
I was recently told I have CTS. My Dr said that feeling worse after excersie is normal as your irrating the nerve.
