hi everyone! have a few questions....
i forgot that my specialist said to start taking magnesium 250mg/day around lunch. have any of you taken this? if so, any benefits OR complaints??
also, i'm assuming it's safe to take with nortriptylin....he prescribed that back in nov and have been on it for quite some time as you probably know.
that brings me to my other question. have any of you with MAV tried Nortriptylin and NOT had success??? i am back at 30mg, after trying 40mg for a tad over 2 weeks. it made me feel way too tired and not myself...it was too much for me, i suppose. 30mg, i can deal with well. however, i am still not feeling any real benefit, and it definitely has had no improvement in my constant jumpy vision.
i am seeing the opthamologist tomorrow, and will probably be referred to a neuro-opthamologist (if i have it my way ;)) i totally want some other perspectives and opinions on this, as i have hit my 9 month mark--which i know for some feels like not very long. for me, it has felt like an eternity of hell without one second of escape. i want to be me again!!!!! i will not stop until it goes!!!!! and if all else fails, my specialist follow-up is in about 3 1/2 weeks, so i will see what he says about the nori.
thanks everyone!! have a good as freakin possible week:D

Hi Alexi,
I know from your past posts that you have had extensive visual issues. It seems like mine have been increasing steadily for some time and I wanted to compare with yours. I used to get very tired eyes but that has faded somewhat, though I still have pretty big "floaters" in my field of vision. What is NEW to me, however, is very slight "jumping" when I'm looking at something or when I look away. It doesn't make me feel dizzy at all, it's just disorienting. Is that anything like what you experience? I'm thinking about a visit to an opthamologist as well, just to see if anything can be done about the floaters. Thanks and take care.

Hey Dan, sorry you're still having trouble...it sucks:( well, it sounds like yours is closer to the term oscillopsia--or at least the definition's i've seen. it's mostly when you move your head or look to the side, or walk--that objects seem to be moving or "jumping". mine is more like just looking at any object, there is shaking around the outline of objects as well as sometimes---if i look up at something, that will look still, but everything below it will be shaking. i'm not "dizzy" but very disoriented a lot.
an example i can give is: if the a/c is on and it blows in the bathroom--i can't tell if the shower curtain is moving from the air, or if it's my vision moving it. or if it's windy outside and i'm at a stoplight....i can't tell if the wind is shaking the lightpole or if it's my vision (if it's just somewhat windy) i can tell if it's extremely different. anotehr example i give, is if you grab your top eyelash at the corner of your outer eye--and just move it back and forth--that is similar to my vision. it sucks.
the opthamologist today is referring me to the neuro-opthamologist for some more input, so i am pleased with that. she dialated me and everything IN my eye is fine. i told her about my one black floater that is ever present in my one eye (and it came about since the start of this), and she says they're most of the time just normal, and to ignore them if you can.
how did this all start for you? i can't remember...
take care!!

I take 1000mg of mag spreadout through the day, it has done wonders for my mav, as long as I stay away from cheese and a couple other of my triggers I am 100%. I credit most of my recovery to magnesium. jb

holy moly :D that's incredible!! my doc told me not to exceed 500mg/day cuz he thought it may cause some sort of seizure activity (which I don't have--to my knowledge lol). maybe cuz i'm on the nortriptylin???
i am so glad to hear someone feels better on here:) best wishes to you!! thanks for writing toO! may i ask what kind of symptoms you had?? any vision junk like this?? also, how long before the mag helped ya??
