hi,
I am having a problem which scares me to death.
usually when i am about to sleep i feel a sudden movement(a second jerk)
of my body which i myself cannot control. I reported it to my Gp but nothing
much have been done to stop it happening. My girlfriend of two years has been experiencing that same thing. Do you know what this may be?

This is very common, and usually harmless. It is called myoclonus, and is caused by a simple firing off of a muscle signal by the brain as it relaxes into sleep mode. I have had them all my life, and often a dream sequence accompanies it, like I am going down stairs and miss one, or trip over a step. Cheers, Sera

Hi, I am new to this board. My daughter found this word "myoclonus" and thought it might be what I have. Mine can last all night long, which means that some nights I don't get any sleep. Years ago, I would have the jumping a couple of times as my body was relaxing...but this lasts a lot longer. The only way I can get any sleep is to take Ambien CR. If I try to nap during the day (I am retired), I jump 5-6 times just as I am falling asleep & I give up. I've not had a good night's sleep (w/o drugs) for years.
I also have a very bad case of sleep apnea. I have a CPAP and it helps, but I've even stopped breathing with it on. That scares the "you-know-what" out of me.
I don't know what is wrong & I don't know where to start with doctors. Most just want to cover everything up with drugs. HELP!
