View Full Version : Kidney cyst in 11 year old?

My son has been doubling up for the last 3 weeks, and after a barium CT with contrast to look at his appendix; they found out he had a 12mm kidney cyst. Is this large or not? Should we look into this further? Could this be causing him the pain that makes him double up? The ER doc said that if it was the cyst hurting him, that he would also hurt in his back? Is this always true?

poor thing.. i am sorry he is in such pain. i would take him to a Pediatric Urologist and let them determine where to go from here. i was born with kidney problems and at times.. infact many times there was no pain in my back. i have had a cyst in my right kidney for 25 years without incident. just this past week however i have been hit with some serious pain on my right side it was so severe last night i thought i would die before i could see my doctor. anywho.. thats my advice. warm blessing are being sent your way

Well, I got him in to a GI doc first. He has got him scheduled for the full abdominal ultrasound to check liver, spleen, pancreas, and gallbladder. He also said they would do a HIDA scan to check the gallbladder function. I hope it may show his kidneys more too.

After we get this resolved, we'll move on to the urologist.
THANKS for the info!
