View Full Version : Sternum Pain

I have been having pains in my chest and my heart races like crazy and then I start to get dizzy. After my heart is done racing my chest gets sore. Then the pain is dead in the center of my sternum. Sometimes when I lift something it feels like my sternum is coming apart. It seems like I am limited to doing things. Everytime I think it goes away it comes back. Sometimes it is sore on the left or the right side of my cartlidge. Also under my breast bone it seems to travel. Does anyone know what it is????

Whenever you have chest pain, you should take it seriously and see a doctor.

But here are a few possibilities on the non-heart side:

My father developed very painful tendinitis, according to his doc, in his sternum area when he was a little league coach and had to pitch batting practice often. Went away when he quit coaching.

I don't know if there is truly a connection, but since I really got into weightlifting, I can crack my chest very loudly in my sternum area. Often I get pains in the area after lifting, playing golf or tennis. And just like your back or neck, it often feels better after I crack it (probably purely a psychological effect)

If you are a female, you should get your breasts checked out for breast cancer.

Could be costochondritis. I don't thing the racing heart goes along with that though. With the pain being in the cartilage area it sounds like costochondritis. It can be a chronic condition and is usually treated with anti-inflammatory medications.
