Well, this past Tuesday I woke up feeling fine...Kissed my husband goodbye as he left for work, proceeded to do my morning stuff, dishes and so on. I felt REAL lightheaded and dizzy, the room was not spinning though. As I did my normal morning activities I felt horrible. I didnt like how I felt so I decided not to go to work, as I commute to work and didnt want to get behind the wheel.

I was so lightheaded...I also was nervous too...My husband drove me to the docs a few hours later. The feelings led up a little bit, I was not as bad. The doctor took my vitals then made me do these tests with her to check my balance and reactions.

She said to me, you have veritgo, its normal and it does go away on its own. She said she can give me some motion sickness pills but she didnt think I really needed it as my symptoms led up since the morning.

She explained the crystals and my inner ear and so on.

She told me to try and not move myhead for a few days, turn my entire body instead of just my head.

I sat in front of the TV for two days straight, each day got a little better for me. I went to work yesterday and pushed myself to get through the day, I work in front of a PC all day, so you know I was getting lightheaded from time to time.

And through all of this, I have nausea too. PLUS I have my period. Yeah, all at once, not fun.

Last night I went to bed at 730 and work up at 630...11 hours of sleep, that is TOTALLY not me. I usually get about 6 hours a night which seems good enough for me, I also work out 5 days a week at the gym. I cant even do that this week.

SO this morning I thought with all the sleep I might feel better. NOPE, I am still lightheaded...Not too bad, the WORST part is my head feels VERY VERY HEAVY. Thats the main thing, like my head weighs a lot. Also, my balance is off, my husband has been calling me bumpy because I am bumping into things.

So, its day 5, not sure what to do. Everyone I talk to says it will pass. I mean each day it seems better, but today it feels like I have a wicked headcold but not draining anything, and yes I am still nauseas....

Anyone have any insights???

I want to add, during all this I have not had any spinning episodes...I know what that is like because years ago I did have a inner ear infection and the entire room was spinning, that was worse but it didnt last long once I got on the meds...

The doc said the crystals need to get back in place and that will take some time...so am I waiting for these crystals??? OR do I have headcold? I dont get sick often at all, as a kid I had tubes in my ears because of sever ear infections...

Hi

Yes u can sleep a lot(more then normal)during an "Inner Ear Infection" because ur brain is trying to keep ur balance---with ur ear(rocks in the canal)hosed up---normally the brain's balance center gets 40% of its signal input for your Vision system, 30% from ur Vestibular system and 30% from ur Proprioception system(they think)---with ur Vestibular system hosed up---it's(brain) relying on Vision/Proprioception with a Cerebral clamp on Vestibular---eventually that clamp will mitigate(come off) and if the rocks are out---(if its BPPV)---u"ll start to return to normal---the amount of time varies with everybody...take a look at the "Information Archive"(Sticky) for more detail...
as well as other Inner Ear Infections(types) and what to do about them and what u can hope for and to understand what is going on.....

And, yes u can have vertigo without the spinning---not at all unusual....

Good Luck

Hi

Some people take meds to dampen down their balance system---but that tends to slow up recovery from the cerebral clamp---which releases after 3, 4 etc...days---varies with the individual---other then that---its the Epley to get the rocks out(or MEP)---then VRT to retrain the brain---if necessary and time....no two people are alike when it comes to this junk---some can ride a roller coaster and have no problem---others---would pass out---if they tried---basically all of the balance signals that u developed from the time u first started to move as an infant and that ur brain had down pat---sort of got screw up....

Now---the brain must relearn(after the rocks are out--if BPPV)---the ur balance signals---takes some people a short time others longer, and some a lot longer---but in the end for most---it happens....

Thing to remember is---ur brain is in hyper-drive---trying to relearn---so it is multi-tasking like crazy---something that R&D shows it is not good at---so it gets tired---and---when that happens---u can get some weird smymptoms....

Standard fix/treatment for BPPV is Epley(or MEP) then VRT---then back to normal---but the time can vary considerably for each individual---because when it happens---different parts of the brains balance network---can be/is affected---for each individual....

my mom says CALL YOUR DOC AND TELL HER YOUR NOT BETTER. My husband says ride it out...I am not that bad...just light headed from time to time...sitting down watching TV doesnt even bother me...But walking around and doing things I feel like myhead weighs so much. Its like a head cold but nothing draining, does that make any sense?

I am a bit nervous with this, and I noticed when I get myself worked up I feel worse and my palms get sweaty, so I am trying to just relax...I do not feel like I did the first day, and the first day only lasted maybe 3 hours the most...but after that and since then I am totally light-headed...thats about it, oh and headaches on and off...I am not taking anything...

any more insights...

Hi

Nothing wrong with calling ur Doc if u think that will help or if u think he/she has the DX wrong.

Do a search of this board for:

COGNITIVE ASPECTS OF VESTIBULAR DISORDERS

That will explain sweaty palms etc....it will also explain why the Doc's who do not deal with this on a day to day basis---frequently throw it in the "Anxiety Bin"....of course most people will get anxiety when their entire balance systems is nutso---but that not (normally) the cause---it can be one of the results.....

any more insights? I mean, I just feel like a truck ran me over today. Its weird. Yesterday I was fine, today not that good.

I am debating on calling my doc...I think I will give it till Friday and if I am not better then I will call her, because Friday will be 10 days with these symptoms.

so today is the 9th day of this on and off heavy head, no balance thing...today I am better than yesterday but still NOT RIGHT. I dont feel myself at all. My head is still a bit heavy, and I had a little pain in my ear this morning, but it went away. I feel clogged...If I am not better by tomorrow I am calling my doctor. Its been over a week, not sure what else I can do.

I can't add a whole lot to help - just wanted to let you know that sometimes these things take a while to clear up. I've had severe vertigo for over 2 years - off work for 9 months as a result. Try to understand that your body is trying to heal itself - the fact that you have some good days as well as not so good indicates you are getting better. Just different then regular illness where you wake up and feel better and never have a problem again.

Hang in there!

Thank you so much for responding, I didnt think anyone was reading my posts, LOL. Well, I called the doc, she is sending me for a head CT SCAN, and also some blood work. Anyone ever had a CT SCAN before?

You're not alone....last weekend I rolled over on my right side in bed and the it felt like my head KEPT rolling. The whole next couple of days I had to walk around like a robot not moving my head to the sides or up or down. Throughout this week it seemed to subside. But what do you know?! This morning I get out of bed slowly because I know that's the best thing to do. And I about fell over. So here I am in bed sitting straight up, head stationary because of this dizziness. Had to pee so bad and about fell off the toilet. *ha*

I'm a bit worried about it. But my family does have a history of dizziness and vertigo but it still worries me that something worse is wrong. I think I'll probably see if I can get into my ear nose and throat doctor tomorrow. I absolutely hate being this way. It's frustrating and scary. And I also feel nausiated.

All I want to do is decorate Easter eggs like I'd planned and can't even stand up for more than a minute. :(

Yup - very strange experience. They prep you with an IV - so when they are ready to inject the dye its ready. You go in, they inject the dye and tell you to remain still. The sensation you might feel from the dye is heat, a felling like you peed your pants and metalic taste. I actually had a sneeze coming on when the metalic taste started - tried to stop but ended up sneezing anyways. Fortunately, it was at the end of the test - so it didn't mess it up. They don't want to have to re-do the test as the side effects of the dye are something you want to avoid if possible. They have you stay after to ensure the hole where they injected the dye closes properly - i.e. don't start bleeding. The actual cat scan is similar to an MRI if you've ever had it before.

I had it and they found a "veinous malformation" - at least there is something showing up on the tests - its something they don't treat and is considered a low threat for anurisims.

Hope this helps.
