Sounds like you may have IBS. I am currently suffering from the same symptoms and do believe it is my IBS. I will see my doctor tomorrow and find out what is happenind. I also have a large gallstone.

It sounds like your gallbladder to me. Gallbladder problems are notorious for occuring with and just after pregnancy. I had mine out when my son was just a few months old. Good luck.

Be sure to eat fat free from now and continuing for about 4 weeks after your surgery. It is very important to remove as much fat as possible from diet during this period.

betty48, yes, I do have pains mostly on the right side. In fact misery never goes away. Sharp pain/spasm like, see stars, happens even while I am eating or any time of the day, but, especially after meals. My belly tightens up so much it feels like it is about to rip off the ribs. No doubt this is due to the bloating. I look like I am about to domino with twins!! Gas-X helps but not a cure for sure.

I saw my internist yesterday and he thinks it may be my gallbladder, definitely something going on, and is very concerned since I am diabetic. He said diabetics may have nerve damage and not realize they have a problem until too late and gangrene sets in.

I will go for a sonogram next week and then see my surgeon for a follow up. The next test will most likely be the hida scan.

Sure hope you find the correct diagnosis soon.

betty48.....No new problems with BM. I do take Miralax and a stool softener daily. So far that has not changed. I am so tired of the miserable bloating.

Yeah, I am afraid the gallbladder is the guilty culprit. Grrrr....I don't need any more surgeries. I am always slow to recover.

I take both of them too, sence all this started I have had problems with BM when I was put in the hospitial I hadnt had BM for 8 days and could not pass any gas. right now even taken both of them its been 3 days and nothing. then I will have one a day or two and then qwiet.

Be sure you drink a minimum of 8 - 8oz. glasses of water per day or the Miralax and stool softner will not work very well. If I don't drink enough water I might as well forget about taking either one, it won't help me.

I too have a problem passing gas, as much work as having a bm.

I wish you the best on your gallbladder surgery! I have to have mine out on April 1st, yes, April Fool's Day! I started having what I thought were gallbladder symptoms about 9 months ago, and was sent for an ultrasound and Hida-Scan and it came out normal. At that time, everytime I ate something spicy, I would double over in extreme pain, so I backed off of that food and food kept going straight through me. After a while, the symptoms seemed to dwindle away so I thought. Recently, I have developed right lower abdominal pain and thought it may be a UTI, but my doc sent me to get a CT scan just to make sure since I was having a lot of pain. Well, two days later, they called me and told me I had a gallstone and then went to a surgeon a few days later and now I am scheduled for surgery. Does the gallbladder cause itchiness all over and also a very bloating feeling? Will this go away after surgery? They tell me I don't have IBS even though I am constipated a lot. Anyways, good luck to you and I will be thinking of you. I just want this done asap so I can get on with my wedding plans :)

I had my gallbladder out about 12 years ago. Felt fantastic after and the recovery was minimal. I was back at work in a week and a half and back at the race track in 3 days. 3 small scars and that was it. Recently I had a colon resection and now have one big scar! I just remember the relief I felt that I would no longer have that horrible gallbladder pain. Good luck to you, you will have a new lease on life!

betty48.....I will see the surgeon next Monday, 3-31-08. Got the sonogram report and it says I have:

Cholelithisasis without cholecystitis

Fatty infliltration of the liver with a simple cyst.

Simple cyst on left kidney.

In other words I have gallstones (2 large plus several smaller stones) but not inflammation. From what I read on the internet it is common for people over 70 to have cysts on the liver and/or kidney and they are usually begnin.

Will let you know what the surgeon has to say.

My internist stated that diabetics need to have their gallbladder removed when it starts giving problems. I also found several sites on the internet stating the same thing (I am diabetic, control via diet/exercise only).

My prayers are with you, and do hope all goes well for you during and after surgery.

betty48...I joined the NGB Club (no gallbladder) on 4-3. Instead of the 3 little incisions one of them at the navel is 3" long. The gallbladder was so large, loaded with gallstones and sludge it would not pull out thru the regular size incission.

The surgeon also repaired a navel hernia caused by exploratory surgery in 1999. Believe me, the naval hernia repair is the most painful.

I am looking forward to the pain going away before too long. However, it has not been as bad as I was led to believe. Certainly not as easy as some said. My recliner is my best friend even tho someone has to help position it since I cannot pull or tug on the handle. Hubby is at my beck and call!! I can flip the handle and spring the chair back up and get out by myself.

I too have hurting in the right side. Hmmm....wonder why? I read on the internet that hurting can continue for 2 weeks post.

What foods are you eating now? Regular or still soft, bland? Have you had anything with fat? If so, how did you fare?

Hope you continue to recover at a speedy rate! Will keep you in my prayers.

I was glad to find a whole discussion on the gallbladder. I had an ultrasound to check my liver (AOK), but they detected a 2,5 cm galstone! They think there's more, but I was too gassy to get a good look.

I have MS, and my internist wants it out ASAP, but at a hospital where there's a neurologist. Last surgery gave me a horrible relapse, so I need someone on hand who knows my case and can stick me on steroids if need be. NOT looking forward to it.

I've always had a fairly slw bowel, but recently it's been 6-7 days before I had a BM. So I used an enema and whew! was I stuffed up and gassy. When I looked at myself in the mirror it looked as if I'd lost 20 lbs from my belly (I hadn't, of course, but what bloat! I eat under 10 gm of fat a day.loads of fiber and veggies, but it's the stupid gallbladder. So out it will come, sometime this summer.

Wondering if I am having gall bladder too? It is interesting to read the posts. Alot of people are suffering with bloating, abdominal cramps and bowel problems, many much worse than I.

I am 50 and started having these problems Jan 08. (Just posted under ileus or bowle obstruct. - Apparently it can be caused by gall bladder. I have had a colonoscopy and will probably do a CT scan.

I sure hope all of us get these issues resolved. It really affects quality of life. Just this wkend, husband and I were going out to look at lawn furniture. - Had to turnaround and go back, as I was doubling over with stomach cramps:(

Good luck to all, with upcoming surgerys and procedures.

my story starts about a year ago....i was taken to the doctors and he basically rushed me to the hospital with cramping abdominal pain and back pain...i was week and could barely walk.....high fever....and no explaination as to what was wrong.....after spending about 8 hours in the hospital...blood tests ect...i was sent home with antibiotics and pain killers and potassium pills....told to see my doctor in a couples days...that was a tuesday.....by thursday i was no better....went back to the docs and he had to change my antibiotics as the other ones had no effect....he than asked why he had no untrasound results from the hospital and i told him because i didn't have one done there...he sent me back.....had the ultra sound on friday.....
monday went back to the docs and found that all my blood tests ...well he asked why i was drinking anti-freeze....explained that i wasn't....well he explained that one kidney was damaged and liver was inflamed.....thus sent for more blood tests.....ultra sound came up negative ....so...off to a cat scan.....lab request marked on top "URGENT"....we that was done with in 4 hours of seeing him.....not bad.......but the results of the cat scan came up negative as well......he than started to ask if i was doing cocaine....no...don't even smoke pot i explained to him....but wth his persistant asking when ever i went to see him......he explained....kidney and liver damage......well....no matter what tests he sent me for....gall stones...kidney stone.....liver...std's.....tubel pregnancy....pregnancy....appendix...... hell he did all the tests he could thinkof for months and all cam up negative...i was starting to think i was imagining all the pain...but no ...it was there...so the only thing that we could narrow it down to was a health food drink that me and my husband started to drink....made him better...but put me in the hospital....i stopped drinking it and got better....well...except for the constant pain......and the irregular bm......water out the but...to constipation.....than back to water again.....no i don't eat a regular diet....yes i drink pop and i drink boose....but i am drunk after only about 5 drinks....i eat what ever i want to eat and never gain weight..i am aobut 5'10" tall.....weighed between 115 and 120 lbs for so long that i don't even own a scale in our house....i do lots of physical activity (moving furniture and such)...work 7 days a week...but after i got sick last june 07...haven't been able to do the same work......i just turned 44 and me and my husband work together in our own business so it has put more of a load on him.....so....the doc thought he would send me for more tests...april 1st...barium drink.....april 10th another ultrasound (4th i think)...and april 11th...hida.(found out at that point...hay i've gained 15 lbs).....well i got the call last night.....from what i have read...1 out of 4 (25%) women develop gall bladder inflamation...and only 1 out of 20 of those (25%) have no gall stones ....well i am one of those few lol...hubby said i was unique.....the doc says that i have no gall stones but the gall bladder is inflammed....i had an aptment to see the surgeon for a scope on may 27th....well they bumped my apointment up to may 7th to see him about removing my gall bladder.......and now i don't know what to do......yes i am nervous and scared...have read so much on the net and talked to so many people...and everyone has a differant opinon....i feel lost.....hay...i'm just hopping that i haven't written so much here that i run out of space...but i thought a history might be in order/........so what i am wondering...is there a usual cause for gall bladders going bad,.....my kids i had aver 19 years ago....so pregnancy can't be it.....any thing else....and instead of removing the gb....can you not clean it out and maybe it will be better after...since i have no stones to pass that is.......not sure if you all can help.....but i do fee better that i can talk to others in the same boat as me...

thanks
