I have no personal experience regarding your question but I did a quick search on the net and there does appear to be a connection.
It is well documented that smoking impairs thyroid function but it also seems as a lot of women develope thyroid problems soon after they quit smoking. The reason for this is not understood at this time according the information I read. Possibly the additional stress from nicotine withdrawl unmasks a problem that is already present but had been undetectide?

I looked it up after reading your post. Apparently, smoking can mask the symptoms of a thyroid disorder, but the problem is already there hiding. You should check with your doctor for real info...Good luck, Sharon.

Sharon, think about how much better you will feel. Maybe not today, but soon, and better than ever! Enjoy the deeper breaths you can take and wait out the awful cravings. Your doctor will work with you to help any problems that may have been hidden...
I'll be thinking of you! :)
