Hello All:

Palpitations = EKG - Done: Cardio Catherazation - Done; Stress Test - Done; ECHO - Done.

I have had a bunch of tests and was found to not need a stent or any major heart surgery - I say yet!

I was put on aspirin - lipitor and the beta blocker - metropolol by my cardiologist. The medicines make me feel grogy and weak. I have only been on them for about 2 months but do not feel at all like my old self.

I have changed my diet, lost weight and am exercising and am going to start on meditation. My question is - if you can live with the palpitions without taking medicines?

Thank you

depends on what type you are having and how often
most people have had them for years and take nothing
i would ask your doctor if they are harmful and if you really need the medications
ask him/or her what would happen if you stopped

Thank you for the response. I will most certainly ask them. Sometimes you wonder which is worse the pvc's or the side effects from the medicine.
I do like not having the all the time palpitations though....maybe I just have to give myself more time to adjust to the medicine.

some are caused by lack of something in our diet like iron and potasium
might drink a ensure or boost a day
and no caffiene

I have refrained from caffeine, Decongestants, B12 and any energy drinks. I take a daily Magnesium and Fish Oil and they seem to help. I also take Potassium 8meqs every other day. The Mg and Fish oil are over the counter, but the Potassium is by a prescription.
Also, watch your sugar intake and be careful of artificial sweetners. Aspartame seems to be the worst trigger for me and it's in sugarless gum and mints so I have to stay clear!
There are four things that need to stay level in your system according to my doctor to avoid palps. Sugar, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium. One level off kilter and whammo. Every trip I have had to the ER with palps and SVTs has shown one of these lvels off.
