Hi,
I have a problem finding jeans that fit right. Normally, I wear a size 8/10 but they've been a little tight (thanks to a few extra pounds) and now, when I sit, I have the dreaded muffin top. But this only happens when I sit. When I stand, my pants seem to fit just fine. So, I went shopping to pick out pants in a larger size but the next size up (12) is still too big.

Any advice on finding jeans that fit just right? I thought about higher waisted pants but, considering that I'm an apple shape, that would just not look good at all. Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone had any advice and/or been through something similar. Thanks!

It's normal to have your stomach not as flat when you sit... I see this happen even to very slim people! Even at my smallest weight, I don't have as much of an hourglass figure and tend to be a little more straight. For my pants, I find that boot cut as usually the most flattering with me. You may want to try different rises in the jeans. I like low rise pants, and any kind of pants with a little bit of a thicker waistband will help with the stomach area. I LOVE foldover yoga pants for this reason.. they are just so flattering and hide any trouble spots in your middle.

Also, try to look for pants with stretch in them. Go for the smaller size with the stretch and they should fit more comfortably. You may have to shop around and do a lot of trying on. It took me a long time to find brands that I love that fit perfectly. You can also look for a looser fitting top with a longer length to it.

You might also consider going to your favorite clothing store and asking for a sales associates help. Depending on the associate, he or she can be full of advice and support with what styles, fits and selections in the store will work best for your shape and budget. Keep smiling!:)

Good advice! As a former retail employee, I was very knowledgeable of how all of the jeans fit. The different styles really did fit differently... I was able to help many women find jeans that fit for those that were pear shaped, hourglass, and those that needed more of a straight fit.
