Sometimes I am constipated

Sometimes I have normal bowel movements (the kind I have gotten used to my entire life)

Sometimes my stools are soft. There will be mucus around the stool and on the toilet paper.

Sometimes I have bad gas and when I go to the bathroom all the comes out is light brown flakes.

One time I had actual watery diarrhea.

I really can not stand this anymore. Is there anyway that can help lesson the symptoms? I know that stress can make it worse and I am under a lot of stress, but I don't see that subsiding anytime soon.

Thanks

You've described my symptoms perfectly. I never know from one day to the next what my guts are going to do. It's something I've just learned to live with after 3 decades!

I go with the flow. If I am constipated badly, I do a magnesium citrate "flush" to get things moving. I take an herbal supplement daily to keep the gut hydrated and to stimulate peristalsis but it doesn't always work. I never "treat" D because, in my case, it is a welcome friend. I may be a bit inconvenienced with having to run to the loo more frequently, but at least I know that when it's all over, I will feel "empty" and the gas and spasm will cease.

You really have to experiment and find what works best for you. Some things I won't tolerate, like C for longer than a day. Having had the experience of an impacted colon, I know it does not take long before I get backed up badly. While fiber supplements do not work for me, others have found some success with Benefiber. You will just have to try things for yourself and hope for the best!

There are lots of things you can take to ease IBS. However, I would speak with the pharmasist. Ive found them much more helpful than the Dr with things like that and more recently I was advised to take extract of Peppermint oil. THis eases my tummy and seems to control my bowel habits and problem wind, aches etc. :)
