I was wondering if anyone else is having muscle twitching going on with low calcium and Vitamin D? I think my levels have been dropping since last summer. I had a test done a month of so ago and the calcium was low. I started taking 1200 mg a day of Calcium plus D for about a month now. It seem to work at first now the twitches came back. It is stressing me out more. I actually went and got liquid calcium with mag. and VIBE -liquid vitamins thinking that will get into my bloodstream better since they say sometimes that caplets don't break open in your body and then I wouldn't be getting what I really need.
Anyhow my question is,do twitches come with low calcium? And How long does it take to get the level right in the body?

I'm also wondering this myself. I'm currently taking magnesium and calcium, to see if it might help. When I take a full dose of magnesium at night-400mg at once, it does seem to calm things during sleep a bit....but I don't know how long it takes to fully restore the levels? Would love to know the answer as well too though. I'm also wondering if i'm low on Vitamin D-since being inside for 3 months during the winter, and I don't drink milk. Only a multivitamin.

I went to the doctor again today. My Vitamin D level is 22. The normal range she says is between 30 and 80. So as you can see it is significantly low. She was suprised because I am only 43 and she thinks this is happening too soon. However she is seeing more and more cases of this lately. She thinks because we live in Iowa and we don't have sunshine a good portion of the year we are running low. She has prescribed 50,000 mg of Vitamin D twice a week. She wants to really boost it up. I guess the regular dose for people is 1200mg of calcium plus D. That is just not working for me right now. You may want to see what direction your doctor wants to take with this. But I tell ya, this has been coming on for months. I started getting twitches last summer and they have been on and off but the last 4 weeks they are happening everytime I sit down to watch TV or lay down to sleep. They drive me crazy! Surely we will get to the bottom of this. Sunshine would help right now too!! I hope you will get yours figured out. Take care!

hi yeah this has been the longest winter ever...and i barely went out into the sunshine for months, so I do think my D might be low. I had my calcium etc. checked and they said it was normal...but i also was taking a supplement at the time, i'm wondering how accurate the tests were-as the Calcium would have been in my bloodstream anyhow from the supplement. I go back in 2 weeks-just for general stuff, but maybe i'll ask them to run a D test as well.
Something else i've tried in the evening that might help is to take a bath with Epsom Salts...i've done this twice and it seems to relax my muscles. You could try it? Epsom salts are made from Magnesium, and apparently your body absorbs it very easily when you bath in the epsom salts. At the very least, it makes it easier to sleep. You can buy them at most drug stores. You might give it a try!!!
