Saw my MD last Friday b/c of recurrent pain in the flank on my right side that sometimes spreads to my stomach. Urine came back negative for infection, but when he pressed on my abdomen it HURT. He was thinking hydronephrosis (due to a blocked or kinked ureter, which would cause infection...I had a low grade fever...and nothing would come out in the urine sample since it's blocked)and scheduled a CT scan for Tuesday. Had that done and haven't heard any results yet. Called his office, he's off this week (great), but if there was something abnormal on it, another doctor would call to let me know. I asked how long it would take to get it from the hospital and they said 2-3 days, and also said that nobody would call me if the results are ok.
Meantime, I'm hurting in my back still (just off and on though), feel like I constantly have to pee and just in general feel bad (fell asleep @ 8 last night and missed AI!).
Anyway, in your all's experience, how long does it take for the CT Scan to get from the hospital back to the requesting MD?
Thanks! :)

Mine took about a week and a half from the time I had it done till the doc called me to tell me I had a blockage. You to need to know the ct scan well only show it id blocked or not it wont show why it it is . You will to have an mir for that. The ct scan will show if it is swollen and how much. When mine came back they could tell my ureter was three times larger than it should have been and the kidney was also larger. Good luck

Greens.... does that mean they can't see stones in a CT scan? I'm going for one on Tuesday, and I thought that was why they were sending me... because the KUB xray showed calcifications, but they needed to know the size. If the scan doesn't show the stones, then how does that help?

Sorry brian not working today, I was taking about the ultrasound I had before my ct scan. The ultrasound showed my urerter was blocked but not what was blocking it. I think the ct scan well show stones and the size as long as they are not uric acid stones. Although when I did have my ct scan they still could not tell what the blockage was. My urologist thought it might be stones but could not tell for sure until he could get a scope up there to have a good look around. My blockage turned out to be a upj.

Thanks for the info greens. Waiting is the hardest thing b/c I start to think maybe it's all in my head and I'm not really hurting...then I have my hubby push on my back and it still hurts bad so I know it's not in my head...Yes, I am nuts, just not certifiable yet. :jester:

No it is not in your head, I have had surgery to fix my blockage which did not work so mine is still blocked so I have opted to have the kidney removed because it has less than 18% function left. I have days where I think I do not need surgery and no pain at all and then there are the days where I am reminded that the blockage is still there. Good luck to you let me know if you have any questions.
