My name is Shannon..I was in the process of registering for this sight to find out some more information and other peoples experiences on liver cancer, the signs of end stage and if there was alot of suffering involved near the end. As I was activating my registration my phone rang and I was to than find out that they gave my grandfather no more than 3 weeks to live. His health has declined so rapidly within the last week. He was diagnosed 5 months ago and they said within 6 months he would die but all along we (my family) have watched this man do his daily activies like nothing was wrong with him at all. He would still go meet with his friends everyday and play cards or golf, we were all amazed, we often even wondered if the doctor could have been wrong. Up until this week he did not seem sick to us. I guess it just happened overnite because now he only has up to 3 weeks of life left. Can anyone that has experience this (death from liver cancer) tell me what to expect throughout the next few days or weeks of his remaing time? I would so appreciate it.

I'm sorry about your grandfather. I have no experience with this, but I just wanted to say that it's good that he was still enjoying life, seeing friends, golfing, playing cards, etc for as long as he can.

Terribly sorry for you having to witness such a helpless event. My father died on 25 july 05 of liver and pancreatic cancer. He wasn't even a month into his 50th year. You mentioned him having no symptoms for a while and that is what I remember in my father. I also remember literally an overnight turn for the worse. I lived out of state and saw the cancer and kemo have a terminal effect on him in stages. Luckily I was blessed to have been able to see him the night before he made the turn. I wanted to share with you the things I saw towards the end in my father. First, once that turn is made he will be just a body with a pulse. My father was there for a week, in my opinion, without a spirit or consciousness while the cancer got the best of him. I believe my father felt no pain and had no recallection of what was going on with him the week before he died. It's very hard to watch. I wish you luck in dealing with such a terrible thing.

I am sorry for what you are going through.....I lost my Father on 3/5 , he was heathy and active until he had a melanoma skin cancer on his earlobe spread to his liver and he was gone in 5 days.........we were told he had 6 months but he only lasted 5 days after that........part of me is glad he did not linger but part of me wonders how long he really had it and we just did not know it. He went from up and active to down and gone fast.

I say thank God for Hospice at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach Ca.......they did a wonderful job. I also live out of State but was able to be with him his last week and at his bedside when he took his turn for the worse.

People say how lucky he was he lived so long........this is true but it still hurts just as bad for the family when they are gone...My Mother dropped dead 14 years ago with no warning.....it was like someone jerked a rug out from under us. No time to say goodbye all so unexpected. I had time to say everything I needed to my Dad but I can tell you it still hurts just as bad when they go.......no matter how they go they are still your family and you feel a loss.

Truth is I am surprised how bad it hurts when I had time to prepare for his passing due to his advanced age of 93. No matter how they go or no matter how old it still hurts.

Time helps.........I wish you strength and understanding........spend all the time with him you can right now......tell him you love him.......Oleander
