Check out the article "Bone Loss Drug Linked to Rare Fracture" in the New England Journal of Medicine, March 20 issue. I found this on Web MD.

I don't know if I found what you were looking at but I found it interesting. In the article I was reading it suggests that after 5 yrs of being on these bisphosphonates you should take a "drug holiday" for a year or two to check out your bone turnover.
It also says that the rare leg fractures linked to Fosamax use are far less dangerous than the hip fractures the drug prevents.
I don't take these drugs anyways. I was on Fosamax for 3 months and didn't like the side effects. I might change my mind, however, after my next scan after all I am doing now with strontium, calcium, magnesium, vit d, exercise and diet.
