My son gets a cole sore at least twice a month and now Im noticing that he has dark circles around his eyes. I was reading up on this and I saw something where it says that he may have something wrong with his kidneys. Should I take him to the doctor and have tests done?

Wow, I had never heard about that being symptoms... But it sounds knowledgable because I have dark circles under my eyes, and I get cold sores very often. I also have a low functioning kidney.
I'm not saying that your son has a problem with his kidneys necessarily. It could just be allergies or a lack of certain vitamins like hopesprings said.
I've had those things my entire life though, and I just recently found out my kidney problem. I'm 17.

Cold sores are due to a herpes simplex virus and the majority of the population has this virus. Constant outbreaks may be due to some health issues, but is not necessarily kidney related. You should speak with his doctor.
