Hi tad
I was on ultram for pain for a long time on and off. It worked o.k. Sometimes it gave me a headache. I take vicodin now when I need it because the ultram started making me itch furiously all over. I don't think it was truly an allergic reaction, but no one wanted to take a chance. I think the key to any pain reliever is no to over use it though. I don't know of anything that works well if it is used every day. I can use vicodin every day for about 4 or 5 days then it starts to have little effect. Good luck to you and peace.

Prolonged Ultram use can actually relust in some nasty side effects. Seizures are not uncommon for people who make a habit of using this med. Also, it seems to be very effective in some people, like myself, for treating pain and worthless for others. Whether or not it is an effective painkiller is often debated because, for some, it simply does nothing for them. 300mg of Ultram does the same for me as about 15mg of hydrocodone. I prefer hydrocodone though because of the minimal side effects.

I'm glad someone brought up this topic. I've had a chronic pain condition for a couple of years now, and now I have fibrosis which can be quite painful at times. I just assumed that since most chems are processed in the liver that pain meds should be avoided altogether. Is this true?

Samwise-
A little input on painkillers, although certain painkillers can be absoloutely lethal for anyone taking painkillers if they are abused, overdosed and/or mixed with alcohol.
one is Acetaminophen, [Tylenol],deadly if overdosed or mixed with alcohol for anyone, let alone one with HCV.
Out of all the painkillers it is said that the actual narcotic painkillers Demerol, morophine, etc, are harmless to the liver, of course addiction comes to play, but is the least of ones worries when in chronic Pain.
Of course in the perfect world, no pain killers would be the best, but in the perfect world, I guess we would not have pain either huh.
Be well +

Howdy Again-
My last post when I re-read it after posting it looked like I may have been knocking Tylenol, so to add -Tylenol gets a bad rap because of abuse, but used correctly on advise from a Doc. is very benefical to people, even with HCV and/or sides from treatment.
It is, if used correctly, a very effective and safe painkiller for people with HCV, I personally cannot take any products with Acetaminophen or codine, for some reason it makes me very sick and effects my breathing, so I take alternitives or nothing at all.
