Is it dangerous to have a resting heart rate of 49-55? I am on meds for hypertension, two of them being new, but even previous to these new meds, I had a heart rate of 55-65. Would atenolol cause this and is it dangerous? I feel fine and the blood pressure is under control.

Into the 40's is a bit low. But if you are not symptomatic then it isnt really a problem. Atenolol would definetly cause this. However you may mention it to your doctor because if you resting heart rate is that, they should look at what your heart rate does when you sleep because generally people drop at night. Might be worth doing a 24 hour holter to see.
