I had this painful headache a year ago which only subsided after a few weeks.During that time I had this strange sensations on my legs and my hands feel numb most of the time although the pain is gone. Now I have trouble concentrating and I feel extremely tired most of the time.Whenever I walk I feel giddy although there is no pain whatsoever.I have done a nerve test and an MRI and the outcome showed everything is normal. The specialist diagnosis was that I have migraine.Does migraine come in different forms?Because the problem now is that I dont have headaches, its just that I feel I cant balance myself when walking or running. This problem is driving me insane because it has affected my work and my profession requires me to do a lot of physical activities and driving as well. Can someone help?Could this be something to do with inner ear problems?

Hello,

I'm not sure what exactly you are experiencing but my guess would be that you could have an inner ear problem. I have unsteadiness, imbalance and dizziness that are a result of a concussion that damaged my inner ear. I too do a job that requires me to be physical and drive and since the concussion and inner ear problems I have not been able to return to do my job. In vestibular rehab. I learned that you can have disequilibrium but not have a problem balancing. Although there is damage to my inner ear I am still able to balance. When you say you can't balance, what do you mean? What happens when you are out there doing your job?

I am no expert on this, but I think migraine fits with your symptoms. Migraine, which causes central vertigo, is more likely to cause imbalance problems than inner ear problems are; inner ear problems cause peripheral vertigo. (Imbalance meaning difficulty with standing, etc., rather than just dizziness).

The numbness that you describe, the painful headache, the strange sensations, etc., all sound like migraine. The book recommended by many on this board and by many experts in migraine is "Heal Your Headache." This book explains the different forms that migraine can take...you're right, migraine can be much more than just a bad headache. There are many things you can do to help stop migraine, and this book addresses all that as well.

That said, it never hurts to explore other options with a neurotologist.

Good luck!

Hello! I don't know about viewing it online, but it is available to buy online from Barnes and Noble or Amazon. I got my copy at the local Barnes and Noble...it was $13.95; your local library might have a copy as well...

Best of luck to you! It can be difficult to find the reasons for these symptoms...I'm still working on figuring mine out as well. I've seen several specialists, but I think that educating ourselves about the illnesses is also very important--we are often the one most interested in our case, after all! :)

Nano,
You mentioned here that you have damage to your inner ear....what tests did you have done in order to determine this? I'm wondering what tests are available for diagnosing inner ear damage. I've only had an ECOG and VNG without the ear caloric.

Thanks --snh39
