I Hey everyone. I need some help. I don't know if anyone knows what this sounds like, but here goes.

Here lately I have been having symptoms like something is in my throat, I cough alot thinking that it maybe mucus (thats what it feels like) but nothing comes up. The musus is thick though. My tummy feels alittle upset but I don't throw up oe anything. I feel sometimes I can't breath. I burp ALL THE TIME and it's very annoying. I can only eat alittle bit at a time otherwise I will have an attack (feels like my throat is closing, coughing alot, tummy hurting, chest discomfort, and sometimes I puke up acid stuff (EWWW!))

I went to the doctor many times but not an ENT. I need to go I know just need to make time to go.

Last night was pretty weird...I woke up in the middle of the night with heavyiness on my chest like a tight feeling. I got up and started burping over and over and over. It felt like there was a huge lump in my throat. I also had a really weird dry mouth and it was dry in my throat and chest as well. I freaked out and had a panic attack. I drank some water and it helped alittle.

I also have been feeling kinda dizzy, lightheaded. I did have a sinus infection about 3 weeks ago. I don't know if it's due to that or if it's something else? I'm just really scared about this because it's been off and on for about 2 or 3 months and I don't wanna be on any meds for this because of side effects.

I really need some answers..I'm worryed, tired, and fed up with this....anyone have any ideas?

Andrea

PS: I forgot tho add that I have been having muscle aches like on the shoulders and neck. I had a cat scan and my brain and sinusus were clear. But I just feel like there is something more...

I don't share the same symptoms but what you describe could very well be GERDS or LPR. Has your doctor tried any acid reducing meds?

Yes, he has subcribed me to take omeprazole....but I'm freaked out about the side effects. I want to try it to see if it will work though but I freak out everytime I try a new medication.

Hi AndreaM22,

Let me first just say - that I am sorry that you are suffering. I too share your fear of new medications. My fear gets so bad sometimes that if I have to a take a medication that I have never taken before I go sit in the ER waiting room and take it - 'just in case' - as weird as that may sound to some people - it gives me the courage I need to take that pill.

That being said - please try the medication - much of what you are suffering does sound like severe GERD/LPR. The medication and diet modification will help. Also try elevating the head of your bed.

I get the chest tightness and breathing problems with mine also - it is very scary. I keep Xanax by my bed at night - just in case I have a panick attack - this helps keep me calm so that I can deal with my GERD.

I have tried Prilosec and Prevacid - I now take extra strength pepcid (OTC) in the morning as soon as I wake up and right before I go to bed. It took about 3 weeks, but it is helping.

Best of luck to you - I will keep you in my prayers.

Nessa

Thanks guys for your replies. I am going to try the meds and see if it helps. I hope that I have no side effects with it...I think that the more I think about it the worse it will be. Thank you Venessa74 for keeping me in your prayers as you will be in mine.

Andrea,
You poor thing, i have the exact same symptoms as you, it started a year ago, i thought i was going mad,. My doctor put me on antidepressants thinking i was anxious, and then realised it was stomach problems, im awaiting an endoscopy. i woke up a few times in my sleep with chest pain radiating down my arm i felt like i was having a heart attack, but it was reflux. I cant believe i have heard of someone with the exact problems as me. that lump in my throat is always there. bur seriosly you need to get medication, you cant suffer with this any longer. the meds might not cure it but it will help it. but dont eat 3 before bed and dont lie down and hour after eating, that really helps me, well at least it stops the palpitations. Claire.

hey there,
i know how you feel.I have been going through the same things since Dec.Its caused me to become so depressed. The Dr. said it was acid reflux, however i'm not so sure that it would cause me to feel like there is always a lump in my throat. Its hard to swallow as well.I was put on Nexium & Zantac.ALso, lexapro.I'm just doing some hard praying now.I wish you the best. Its hard when you go through something like this & no Drs have the answers.Hope you get better.Let me know if something works for you! Good Luck

Hi,
This is my first post on any type of message board. I felt that perhaps my experience could help someone with swallowing problems, especially associated with a build up of phlegm and pain in swallowing. Several years back, I began experiencing pain when I swallowed. Usually, it was within the first couple bites of my meal. The food would be literally trapped in phlegm in my esophogus and I would panic and head for the bathroom to try to bring everything up. Sometimes, large gulps of water would clear my esophogus; however, it was painful.
I went for an upper and lower GI, Barium swallow, x-rays. etc. Diagnosis included spastic esophogus and acid reflux. Even on medication, I still experienced this problem.
Four months later at work, our pop machine had run out of Diet Pepsi, which I had been drinking regularly. I started drinking regular Pepsi and within a week, my problem had disappeared. Several weeks later, I went back to Diet pop, and sure enough my problem came back. I stopped again and it disappeared again. To make a long story short, I experimented myself with other foods that contained the common element. PHENYLALANINE. Everything from diet yogart and sugar free jello to chewing gum. Almost every chewing gum on the market now contains Phenylalinine. I have been two years now free of swallowing problems and phlegm/mucous build up. I constantly look at labels to determine what has Phenylalanine. Sometimes the doctors don't have all the answers. Sometimes, you need to eliminate certain foods from your diet to see if it has an impact. If my posting helps just one person with a similar problem, it was worth my time. To others of you with different problems, you have my sympathy. I know what I was experiencing and it was driving me crazy. Give it a try. Eliminate all PHENYLALANINE from your diet and see if it helps. - Heydid
