Hi Subs,

Somewhere in a post (which I can't seem to find) I thought that we had discussed the fact that even after you hit your recovery mark 12/13/14 months, you still had some "funky" ear feelings going on.

I seem to be doing really well on beating the dizzy junk and even the headaches to a point, but can't seem to shake the odd ear sensations; kind of a little full feeling with a bit of a heavy head and a vibrating or buzzing feeling that kind of is in tune with the tinnitus. The tinnitus is driving me crazy and just don't know how to shake my attitude towards it. I've been going to Philly for TRT since Novemeber 9th. I have another appointment the end of April. I'm just not so sure it is doing much for me.

Anyway, my question is, did you tell me this regarding your situation or am I dreaming the post up? From what I remember is that you got rid of the dizzy foggy head mess but had some inner ear symptoms "funky ear" going on for months after before it resolved too. I suppose I am looking for some reassurance that my ears will feel more normal one day. It is making me feel so tired fighting this junk every day even despite much improvement over the years. I get depressed reading about the fact that tinnitus never resolves, but you told me that yours went away or got so low that it does not bother you, right? So that tells me there is still a chance of it resolving, right?

Thanks,
Gloria

Hi Gloria

U understood/remembered correctly.

...."odd ear sensations; kind of a little full feeling with a bit of a heavy head"...

Yes this/these kind of events preceded to occur---off and on for quite some time....

...."some inner ear symptoms "funky ear" going on for months after before it resolved too"....

Yep---looking at my "Log"----well into the 36th month---and them some....

...."reading about the fact that tinnitus never resolves, but you told me that yours went away or got so low that it does not bother you, right?"....

No one is sure why it occurs---but it can/does go away---and come back----has not come back for any length of time for quite a while---latley....does not seem to have any rhyme or reason to its coming or going...for the most part(at the practical level)in my case---it can be said that it is gone.....Think ur's will also.....sort of "Burns" it self out---or at least to a level that is barley detectable....

Wow, that actually makes me feel a little better that those symptoms can go away even months after the dizziness resolves. It just stinks not feeling well for so long and I dwell on it too much.

Thanks, I needed that. I will have to print this post out and carry it with me to remind me this can happen when I am feeling my lowest.

Thanks so much for the information and inspiration.

Got it---NOW---little slow today---u think/feel the stuff ur experiencing now "MAY" not ever----go away....

Maybe hard to believe---right now---but:

For you and I and most of the others who post here----it certainly will!

And current medical knowledge/R&D & Future R&D tends to supports that.

---For some it will be quick....the lucky one...

---For a significant number---not so quick---not because it never will get better---but because the Balance(Read Brain) injury---is greater/more involved---and therefore---there is more to/for the "BRAIN" to repair/straighten out.....it is a huge, huge job---but it will/does get done....and it will----for u also!

Will there be a few who can/will not make it---sure----but they are not normally on this board or "ANY" board---the fact that ur/others are still here---says more than most words will ever say .....

The Human Brain is a wonderful thing---I see what it is capable of---everyday---shuttling the injured Returning Vets---around---between the VA Hosp---system(s).....

Have a good productive & safe trip to Philadelphia!

Hi again Subs,

How long did you have tinnitus origninally before the labs-VN-BPPV? How long did it bother you until it disappeared or became less noticeable? Was it years before it got better? Also, after the labs-VN-BPPV, did your tinnitus get worse before it got better again?

I'm sorry for all the questions; I just feel like I should be coping better with the noise after 3 1/2 years.

Hmmm, maybe I need to do some volunteer work like this - Get me out of the house and put REAL things into perspective.

Thanks for chatting. I know I've come a long way from 3 1/2 years ago; I just don't seem to be getting over the tinnitus hump and it worries me about living like this......forever.

Subs, did you have BPPV? If so, what did you do that made the biggest difference and help you the most?

thanks.

Hi Subs,

I posted you some questions that got bumped to the previous page. I didn't want you to miss them as I value your opinion and experience with tinnitus.

Thanks much,
Gloria

Gloria

Glad u bumped that---had missed it.

Goes back awhile---I'd say about 20 years(prior to labs-VN-BPPV Aug 2002)---it was not always there---it would come and go---sometimes disturbing sometimes hardly noticeable-----never (repeat never) could figure out why(me or Doc's)---their guess(and mine) was it was associated with the submarines I was on at that time.

It was a high pitched squeal so it bothered me---during those years the longest attack lasted about four years----the shortest about a week---it would cycle---between the longest and the shortest---with nothing(hardly)noticeable in between.

When(Aug 2002)the Labs, VN-BPPV occurred---I had not been bothered for at least 3 years---with the Lab VN-BPPV injury---it came back and----the sound changed from a "squeal" to a pulsating "whoosh" sound in my right ear(bad ear)----the "squeal" ----has not come back.

The "whoosh" would come and go---sometimes loud----sometimes hardly noticeable----it lasted about 2 years---went---and has not returned.

After the Labs VN-BPPV---it did not get worse before it got better.

Thanks so much. You're terrific; such a mood booster. I should just pay you for my psychiatric counsoling related to this head monster (lol). It is very reassuring that one of your episodes lasted 4 years and still resolved for a long period of time. It also helped to know that the tinnitus bothered you too, but you got over it. I think we (us on this board) see you as this really tough nothing bothers me type of a personality since you handled the dizziness so well. I often wondered if the tinnitus bothered you as much as me. It all makes me think it is the normal process (reaction) to dealing with the ringing. All reassures me with this junk.

Thanks a bunch.....Nice Spring weather is finally moving through PA.

I thought you might be interested in seeing this site:
cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=2539617

I don't know if you've reviewed "antecedent barotrauma" online. People who are divers, or fly, or in your case (as in the link), on a submarine, are succeptible.

It seems to make a lot of sense in my case with flying, perhaps it's something to consider in your case too...??

Hope you're doing well

Interesting link!

There is no question on barotrauma---if ur on/in submarines---u prob had it at one time or another---in my case---its been a problem(off & on)---over the course of the 30 yrs I was on them---and they(Doc's--Univ of Penn) thought it could be a cause for the Lab, VN w/BPPV---but---decided it was "not likely"---tend to agree---it is an open question---but mute---at this point.....

Tks
